Born in Bourges, where her father was prefect of the dΘpartement du Cher, she moved with her family
to Paris, where she began to study painting from an early age.\par
In Paris she frequented artistic circles and met Corot and Manet, the two painters who had the greatest influence on her work.\par
A pupil of Manet, for whom she sat as a model and who
se brother she married, she eventually joined the group of the Impressionists, taking part in all their exhibitions and organizing the one held in 1888 together with her husband. She specialized in portraits of women and interiors, full of charm and joie
de vivre, using a light palette and a free and vigorous style of execution in the Impressionist mold.
