- FILE TRANSFER APPLICATION
- PROGRAM INTERFACE
- MEETING NOTICE
-
- Are you or is your company interested in a standard interface to OSI file
- transfer? Do you want an opportunity to influence the development of that
- standard?
-
- The IEEE is currently working on the development of an application program
- interface (API) to the OSI FTAM protocol, under the auspices of its
- Technical Committee on Operating Systems (the group that brought you POSIX -
- the Portable Operating System Interface).
-
- The FTAM API is to include both a set of high-level functions (for example,
- a single function to send or receive a complete file) and a low-level API
- that provides access to the service primitives of the FTAM protocol for
- applications which wish to perform operations not covered by the high-level
- API.
-
- The FTAM API Working Group (known as TCOS project 1238 or "P1238")
- intends to take the XFTAM specification, developed by the X/Open Consortium,
- as the base document for its high-level API work. By adopting the X/Open
- work the group expects to accelerate the process of developing the API and
- prime industry support for the standard that emerges. In addition, there is
- the likelihood of substantial progress in the low-level API work.
-
- The working group meets four times a year to consider drafts of the
- standard and to resolve technical issues. The meetings are open and new
- participants are always welcome. The remaining 1993 schedule of meetings
- is as follows: April 19-23 (Irvine, CA), July 12-16 (Denver, CO), and
- October 18-22 (Washington, DC).
-
- Please contact the Acting Chair of P1238, Tim Boland, for more details.
- Tim can be reached at (301)975-3608 (phone), (301)975-2128 (fax), or
- email at boland@ecf.ncsl.nist.gov. Thank you very much for your attention.
