- If POSIX started to define also a convention for man pages, then it would
- be an excellent idea IMHO to ignore the old existing n/troff practice and
- to have a careful look on what SGML people are doing. E.g. hypertext
- capabilities are already well established in many systems (GNU Info,
- MS-Windows, Borland Compilers, SUN's Answerbook, ...), so the n/troff
- system is FAR behind the state of the art. There isn't much doubt, that
- a well designed hypertext system might increase the information retrieval
- time dramatically. SGML/HyTime is a very promising basis for a new man
- standard!

- (Don't panic: Writing a file converter from the classic UNIX man format to
- a suitable SGML document type won't be impossible, although it might
- need human assistance in some cases if strict semantic markup is required.)
