  8. the same problem.

  10. The easy way out is to specify threads and let everyone continue to use
  11. a bunch of inconsistent interfaces for a common capability if they can't
  12. use threads for some reason (like, they have to support dusty-deck
  13. runtimes like every X toolkit in existence).

  15. The hard way is to define a consistent interface that can be provided
  16. on a variety of systems, and while you're about it clean out some
  17. of the cack in existing implementations (select/poll/O_NDELAY/...).
