  3. Regarding the choice to make Posix 1003.2 dependent on only a Posix
  4. 1003.1 subset: Amoeba (a distributed OS developed here at CWI and VU in
  5. Amsterdam) currently has problems supporting all of 1003.1 (its file
  6. sharing semantics are essentially different, for one thing) but should
  7. nevertheless be able to support 1003.2.

  9. Also, even though we cannot guarantee 1003.1 conformance in all areas,
  10. we (the Amoeba group) do conform whereever we can.  All library
  11. functions, headers and constants required by 1003.1 will be there,
  12. although some functions will always return an error and others will not
  13. obey the exact prescribed semantics under certain conditions.  We
  14. believe we have done the best we could given the possibilities of our
  15. file system.

  18. deviating unnecessary?
