  3. Is the Xlib that might be voted on from X11 Release 3 or Release 4?

  5. Why are we standardising on a version of X when even the X developers 
  6. haven't finished developing X windows?  This seems absurd.

  8. In any event, it appears that mine may be the only NO vote on such
  9. a proposal.  The IEEE is NOT in the business of "rubber-stamping"
  10. de facto industry standards or shouldn't be.  I am against the entire
  11. P1201 effort because it is moving too fast and is trying to standardise
  12. something too early in the technology cycle.  A lot of work and progress
  13. is still being made in the graphical interface field and creating
  14. a formal standard at this point will stifle worthwhile development 
  15. rather than help the industry.

  17. Peter's comments are well-taken about the attitude of a lot
  18. of the firms and individuals who are treating standards efforts as 
  19. some kind of perk rather than making a serious commitment to creating
  20. standards that are appropriate in scope and timing.
