- Is the Xlib that might be voted on from X11 Release 3 or Release 4?
-
- Why are we standardising on a version of X when even the X developers
- haven't finished developing X windows? This seems absurd.
-
- In any event, it appears that mine may be the only NO vote on such
- a proposal. The IEEE is NOT in the business of "rubber-stamping"
- de facto industry standards or shouldn't be. I am against the entire
- P1201 effort because it is moving too fast and is trying to standardise
- something too early in the technology cycle. A lot of work and progress
- is still being made in the graphical interface field and creating
- a formal standard at this point will stifle worthwhile development
- rather than help the industry.
-
- Peter's comments are well-taken about the attitude of a lot
- of the firms and individuals who are treating standards efforts as
- some kind of perk rather than making a serious commitment to creating
- standards that are appropriate in scope and timing.
