  13. meeting, and are commissioned by the USENIX Association.
  14. Because the report, like the committees it reports on,
  15. has become long and involved, it is being posted in parts,
  16. currently nine, with perhaps more to follow.  Feel free
  17. to reply or follow up to any part or to the whole thing.

  32. This is the fourth in a series of articles on Unix related
  33. standards activities.  In this edition I am going to cover a
  34. slightly wider area than usual.  There have been
  35. developments at the ANSI X3 level, the National Bureau of
  36. Standards, and within the POSIX committees that all deserve
  37. attention.  Because there is so much material this article
  38. has been divided into a series for posting to Usenet. I will
  39. apologize at the outset for the length of this series, but I
  40. feel that all of the information is timely and important.
  41. In addition to information on group activities, included
  42. with each report is a contact person from whom you can get
  43. more information about these developments, and the names of
  44. Watchdog Committee members through whom you can relay your
  45. opinions to the specific standards committees.
  46.  
  47. On the subject of the Watchdog Committee, this series is now
  48. an activity of that group.  Last quarter I used the article
  49. to solicit participation in the committee, and I am pleased
  50. to report that we have a number of new associate members.
  51. While I am not familiar with everyone now involved, I would
  52. like to thank those who contributed heavily to this series:
  53. Ted Baker, Mark Colburn, Doug Gwyn, Sol Kavy, Doris
  54. Lebovits, Kevin Lewis.  We are still in search of members
  55. for this group.  While we will accept all comers, we are
  56. particularly interested in filling out our rather lean

  85. IEEE P1003 - The POSIX Committees
  86.  
  87. The POSIX committees met October 24th - 28th in Honolulu,
  88. Hawaii.  At this meeting there were a record breaking 200+
  89. attendees and meetings for eight working groups.  Included
  90. in this series are updates on each of the groups within
  91. P1003, with the exception of IEEE P1003.6 and 1003.8.  We
  92. are awaiting further information on those groups.
