  82. These questions come up quite a lot.  I've been collecting most
  83. responses to project management questions, and they are summarised
  84. in this FAQ.  In addition, I've had quite a bit of mail asking for
  85. information on books etc on project planning.  All of the
  86. information I have so far is distilled into this FAQ and its sister
  87. file which contains reviews of project management software (see
  88. Question below on "Reviews").

  91. this file.

  172. (xplan) which is in the public domain.

  281. You need Xview 3.0 (I tried compiling with Xview 2.0 and 
  282. found a number of header files etc missing) and 'guide' (Open
  283. Windows development guide) to compile this.  However, there is
  284. a Sun binary available for ftp at the above site.

  286. Also, you need latex/tex to print the documentation (the latest versions, 
  287. otherwise you won't have any joy).

  289. Mark and his team do not intend to support xplan in future, but it
  290. does seem as if there is sufficient here for someone to develop a
  291. package that is less platform specific. Any offers ?

  297.     project management tool written by students at Auburn University,
  298.     Australia.

  300.     There was quite a lot of information about this tool in previous
  301.     FAQ's, but I have recently heard from Auburn as follows:

  318.     'xopps' was developed by a group at NASA/JPL, including Susan
  319.     Murphy <susan@natasha.jpl.nasa.gov>, who was responsible for  
  320.     getting it placed on an ftp site along with Mike Tankenson
  321.     <mike@jpl-devvax.jpl.nasa.gov>.

  323.     A copy of the executable for Suns is on devvax.jpl.nasa.gov
  324.     (137.79.113.100) for anonymous FTP. There is no source at present
  325.     in the public domain.

  327.     I am impressed with this software.  If only the source were
  328.     available, this would fill the gap in the market for a good PD
  329.     planning tool.

  331.     The structure of the file is available, so you can get your own
  332.     database system to print out good looking gantt charts. However, I
  333.     had the file structure by mail, and so will try and get this info
  334.     to be placed on the ftp site with the executable.
