  7.         "om" is an option which allows the user control   over  whether
  8.         or  not he will  be  notified  about pending mail.  Typing "om"
  9.         simply toggles the switch controlling notification.
  10.             The default is for the editor to notify the  user about his
  11.         mail.  The  mail  box  which the editor uses is taken from  the
  12.         environment variable MAIL. If the mail box exists, but is empty
  13.         the user will not be notified.
