The Umbilical Cord is attached to the baby's body at the abdomen. The baby breathes and feeds through this tube. The foodstuffs and oxygen come from the blood of the baby's mother.
The other end of the umbilical cord is attached to the placenta which processes the food and air.
After the baby has been born, it can breathe through its lungs and drink through its mouth. The cord is no longer needed. The doctor or nurse cuts the umbilical cord just after the child is born. You can see the remains of your umbilical cord; it is called your navel or belly-button.
