  1.   The Mouth
  2. Food enters the mouth and is broken down into small pieces by chewing.  
  3. The food remains in the mouth for a few seconds before being swallowed.
  4. Physical digestion starts in the mouth where the teeth and the tongue are used to break up the food and mix it with saliva.  
  5. The food you have chewed (bolus) passes down the gullet and into the rest of the digestive system.
