Stratified (layered) Epithelium covers the skin. The tissue protects the skin from constant rubbing and wearing away. It is made up of layers. The top layer consists of flat, dead cells that are worn away. They are replaced by new cells from a layer of live dividing cells. Household dust includes the dead cells which are rubbed off your skin.
