  3. Description:
  4.          Because of Midwest flooding this past summer, Amtrak like
  5. many others, had to re-route trains. The California Zephyr was
  6. re-routed from Chicago to Omaha via the Chicago & Northwestern.
  7. CNW uses cab signaling and since Amtrak was not equipped with
  8. such, they at first leased Metra (ex CNW) E8's to head the trains
  9. as they had the necessary signaling equipment. (Picture posted
  10. last summer with E8 on the point) Unfortunately the Metra units
  11. proved troublesome and about three weeks into the reroute Amtrak
  12. units were equipped. This pictures shows the Zephyr passing the
  13. old CNW West Chicago station which has not seen a "real"
  14. passenger train for quite some time. Metra no longer used this
  15. old station as they built a new one just East of this location.
