VVV is a god/strategy/warfare game that takes the user into the life of the last known human. The game features a complex and involving storyline, fully featured combat modes in space and on land, and much, much more than your average space god simulator.

Your first goal is to repopulate the Earth and educate the population so that you may advance in technology and eventually destroy your opponents in the known quarter of the galaxy.

Your second goal is to populate the galaxy, so that, you can amass the armies required to destroy your opponents in the known quarter of the galaxy.

Your final goal becomes clear as you must destroy your opponents in the known quarter of the galaxy.

Within the resources of colonisable planets you can build large colonies. Uninhabitable worlds can only be used for orbital functions.

You decide on what your colony worlds build. The type of planet and the planetÆs resources limit exactly what can be built. Planets vary throughout the galaxy, providing access to different constructions. Water worlds allow hydro-electricity, but desert worlds do not.

This screen allows you to review population, begin a new project, review orbiting ships and factories and return to the star chart. When you have finished reviewing planet details you can close the information screen by clicking on the hide button, see figure 3.

This screen provides the means for you to pit your star ships against those of your enemies.

Many things affect battle in space, but mostly it is affected by gravity. This means that only two ships may engage while orbiting a planet. Usually orbiting ships are either recharging their hyperspace drive systems or preparing to use their power in some way other than fighting. They are never quite at full power for combat.

To over come this problem energy is temporarily allocated to the shipÆs recharger. The recharger can only store energy for a limited time. It is ideal for short lived battles but is useless for recharging the hyperspace engines.

figure 6: Star Ship Battle Screen

Ship energy can be allocated to shields; scanners; the drive system; and the recharger. The first three uses drain power. Energy allocated to the recharger provides you with fresh energy each turn. The ship systems may be brought on-line by using the spin buttons on the top-right of the screen. Ships also have reserves of temporary energy.

Star ships carry 9 anti-matter torpedoes (AMTs) and are fitted with a laser cannon and plasma beam. The AMTs will do the most damage, but may only be replaced at an orbital dock. The laser cannon is the main stay weapon. It will do minimum damage to an enemy craft. It requires less energy than the plasma beam. The plasma bean is the more powerful weapon, but uses more energy.

AMTs may be launched at a visible target by pressing the button below the gauge. (To make a target visible, increase the energy dedicated to the ship's scanners and then patrol the area of space that the game has allocated you)).

All weapon gauges appear in the bottom left corner of this screen. Buttons are used to control ship actions. The next turn button is used to allow the energy recharger function to work and to allow the enemy ship a turn as well.

[this needs more work, but will have to wait until I do combat]

MIA combat is an essential component of VVV. It requires a fair bit of practise. It is vital that you train your MIA warriors using the simulator, or Abbadon outposts, before you decide to attack their Home World to kill Domina and get your body back (please refer to the story below).

When you first load the arena up you will hear the MIAs start. You are then presented with your eight MIAs. These are lined up vertically on the left side of your screen. You will also notice the presence of five buttons and one gauge on this hand side.

The question mark button provides you with the following list of help items, so that you have the options to review these lessons, from within the game. The Time Units (TUs) gauge displays how much time the current player has left. The hourglass represents a next turn button. The musical note allows you to turn the music off. Music can only be turned back from the options button on the start up screen. The flag represents retreat, which is only available in battles where you don't stand to loss something important if you do retreat. Finally the hour glass with an arrow places the game into "next turn automatically" mode, this provides you with a short amount of time to have your turn in, and then proceeds in time when that allocated time is up, or if you run out of time units. A clock will be provided for you so that you can tell how much time you have left.

To control your MIAs you must first select which MIA to control by clicking on it. The game will respond by providing you with a further set of buttons, this time designed to control the MIA rather than just provide general options. The four diamonds represents the direction you can move, and when clicked upon gives a further set of buttons that provide you with four buttons that allow you to move. The target button is used for turning the mouse cursor into a set of cross-heirs which can be dragged over a target and the weapon will correspond when clicked, with either firing or providing a reason why it can not fire. The missile functions in much the same way, except for it releases two guided missiles from your salvo. The book allows you view data about your MIA. The cross hides this set of buttons.

For additional help about what task each button preforms consult the purple caption box just above the horizontal scroll bar. This will describe to you the button / objects abilities, and is activated by dragging the mouse cursor over any object on the screen. When the mouse cursor is dragged over MIAs or enemies it will also state the 'armour' or 'health' values of that character.

The MIA fighting screen is best learned by trail & error, so it is advised that you, practise, practise, practise, as soon as you have a simulator and an army barrack.

The begining of your end...

Two human millennia into the future, and over ten light years from Earth. The last pure human being lives in a deep sleep chamber, drifting into the great black vastness that is the known quarter of the galaxy. You are he. You are alone because you disobeyed the laws of the 'Abbadon'. (A race of creatures, over 30 feet high, that have taken control of this part of the galaxy, and left it in ruin. They are a non-liquid race, the only one known to human kind. Their outer body is made of a silicon compound and serves as armour for their machine like organs. They live only for fighting, but luckily they lack intelligence, because of this they are been lead by a life form known only to the outside races as 'Domina'.) The crime that you, the last human, committed was one of fraud; leading to murder. The fraud part was when you posed as a waiter in an Abbadon bar. The murder part was when you pull out your SC199 shotgun and blew away Domina's bride to be. Domina was light in his sentence, because she was to be his 97th bride and he didn't care for her all that much. So he had you turned into a castrato, deep frozen, and aimed your deep sleep capsule at a distant sun, and drifted you of into space, hopefully never to be seen again.

As you may have guessed, his plan didn't work. Just before you were shot into space. The Abbadon Star Ship carried you was attacked by a fleet of Dreadnauts. (Extremely fast ships armed with ion intercept cannons.) Causing your deep sleep chamber to be jettisoned into space, along with the rest of the shipÆs garbage in the Abbadon's haste to escape. They needed to drop as much weigh as possible so they could out manoeuvre the Hybrid Dreadnauts.

The Hybrid race is a mixed breed of the human like race known as the Geradi and the Human race itself. It is regarded as the most audacious race of the galaxy, causing the Abbadon the most trouble. The race numbers in the high billions, as compared to the 1000's of humans and 10,000's of Geradi, left.

For 15 Geradi years, (A Geradi year is equal to 5.436 Earth years and is excepted as the standard unit of time, along with a Geradi day which in fact measures out to be the same amount of time as a Earth day.), all four races searched for your capsule. Finally a Hybrid space station reconnaissance team found you. They reported it back to their home station and identified you as David Ross-Smith, Earth's greatest and latest MIA pilot. They then attempted to unfreeze you, but of course it was impossible to do so without the release code.

So in a large number of snowballing events your body ended up with the Abbadon race, in a last chance effort to get you unfrozen. The Hybrid race has been stupid to trust their Abbadon leaders and have lost their last chance to save their race from slavery, you. So they let the Abbadon believe.

After safely passing through the Waszuck worm hole the Abbadon found they have been doubled crossed. They only have your body but not your mind. The Hybrid scientists set to work fast and within a Geradi day they had devised away to transfer your mind into a half hybrid and half cyborg body. Yielding them the greatest warrior ever made. YOU! Knowing that this day would come the Hybrid engineers had already built you a ship, housing over 25 hyper computers, running a quad engine system, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 16 times the speed of light. The Hybrid race has informed you that all of the remaining human slaves had been murdered for your actions. They also inform you that you are required to fight for them, in this spacecraft called the Leviathan. Yet you have never really taken to the idea of been anyone's slave, not even the Hybrid's. So as the Commander's of the space station were asleep, you slip down to the hanger and take of for Earth. In your hasty escape you only managed to grab colonising equipment, and left behind any form of batteries to run the ship, any weapons and you also left behind all the food.

'Five... Four... Three... Two... One...' The pure force of the massive engines pushes your new body back into your chair. You have now entered Hyperspace... Seconds past and you were still yet to come out, then it all happened, the stars stopped moving past you at a rapid pace, and you have arrived. Earth; a once proud planet, abundant with life, now deceased.

'Fusion Plant shut down imminent, please take caution in immediate evacuation.'

'Computer tell me of possible evacuation route.'

'The Colonising shuttle.'

'Roger that and en route. The human race starts again today.'

You eject just moments before the Hybrid's last chance to defeat the Abbadon is destroyed. The ship paints a red cloud all over the Earth Sky as you and the debris float to a once proud planet...

Mechanically Intelligent Armour (MIA) will be the mainstay of your fighting army, but require no researching or education to build, yet are obviously advanced technology and have been used in battles prior to the one you're about to begin, so to inform you about MIAs these chronicles have been provided, please note they are not compulsory reading, but a clear understanding of them will help you understand a few other things about VVV and about David Ross-Smith.

The 20-20 war of the 21st century was a major turning point in the advancement of human technology. The war had began in the year 2020, when the United States president was assassinated in the streets of Rome, Italy, followed closely by an atomic explosion in Venice, Italy. The war consumed most of the weaponry from both sides and few countries where prepared to ally with either side. Europe was destroyed by the Americans in a matter of weeks and the Italians were failing to proceed past either Russia or Great Britain, so they proceeded to the deserts of Africa, where they made allies and by 2021 had conquer the entire of Africa and held outposts throughout Europe. By now it was obvious that neither side had the technology to completely wipe the other side of the face of the Earth, so America once again resorted to using nuclear weapons, as it continued to bombard the major Cities of Africa and Europe. The world was headed for complete destruction and only two countries had been involved. The Russians - who soon stockpiled enough nuclear arms to keep it's lands safe - were looking to get involved, and had quickly forgotten the battles held previously between them and the Italians and join forces with Italian armies. The Americans become intensely worried about there own cites and requested that all of the American alliesÆ stand up and be counted, and they did, including England, Australia and Japan. The Russian panicked and where forced back to other side and began to bomb vital locations all over North Africa, including Giza. The pyramids where destroyed along with the Sphinx, what the Russians had now done was win the war for the Italians, yet neither side knew it as yet.

The Italians began to loss the war on all fronts and all of their allies turned on them like the Russians did, the Italian where forced to hide out in the bombarded cites and where soon at the doorsteps of Giza. For thousands of years we had wondered what secrets the Egyptians held buried under the Sphinx and their they where, 3 jade green 30 foot metallic monsters. It was clear that they were the alien technology used so many years ago to construct the Pyramids all those years before hand. The MIAs as they were dubbed where well in advance of any technology at the time, utilising a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell that provided the necessary electricity to run the hydraulics system and the water to which to call the same system, and only requiring Hydrogen and Oxygen as a fuel source, with the added source of energy from the sun, they were the perfect war machine. The problem was they had to be outfitted with weaponry. They were very hastily outfitted with machine guns and laser beams (The most advance technology of the time).

The problem now for the Italians was that they only had three of them, and without an army of them to defend each other they would soon be brought back down to size. The Italian technicians attempted to reconstruct replications of the space age technology, but were unsuccessful, because the metal used, Technetium, only doesn't actually exist on Earth. This soon didn't worry the Italians as they were losing the War, so they released the three that they did have working towards the main fronts for the Italian, the Russian, the French and the Antarctic fronts. The MIAs were undefeatable but any of the 21st century technology, and were believed to be made from magic metal, and to have been constructed by God and sent to the Italians by the said God, so that they may not lose the war. The Italians once again gained allies throughout the world and the war had been won. It appeared as if the MIA technology was a greater scare factor than a military strong move.

The war was over and it had only lasted 14 years, the world was for the first time at world peace, the Italians had conquered the entire world and the human race soon learned to speak Italian, and were all converted into Roman Catholics. The MIA technology was advanced using modern technology to replicate the needed materials, the MIAs were finally replicated themselves. They were used for everything, from farm work to policing. By 2035 the world had become one nation, under the green, white and red flag. The public space station was reopen and all weaponry was removed from orbital satellites. Television was purified, and children were raised without trauma, crime was down and life expectancy has risen to over 100. The world was great, until 2047 when the first full automated MIA was released for police duty. There was worldwide uproar. Never before was a machine been given so much control. Sure they could clean the toilets, dictate our letters, and wipe our asses, but never would they police us. The older, human controlled, MIAs were eventually scraped. Rebel forces, determined to take back their human run world salvaged these MIAs. By 2049 they had amassed over 1000 MIAs and warrior pilots for each them. The time had finally come, and they declared war upon artificially intelligent MIAs. The world was at war once again, this time nuclear weapons were not available and the MIA was mainstay of any military actions. Three sides emerged: The government, boosting over 10,000 MIA, but only trained for policing purposes; The Asian freedom fighters; and The mercenaries, who were prepared to fight for either side, it only depended on how much money they could get paid for a job. The freedom fighters won a lot of early battles and had upgraded their MIAs arm based weaponry to plasma beams and hand to hand weaponry such as axes and lances. The problem was that both sides had very similar technology, and neither side could win a battle except for if their numbers were greatly advanced over the enemies.

By 2055 the freedom fighters were forced 'underground', because, although evenly matched with their enemies they were without repair facilities. They had no were else to hide these towering war machines. They needed a lucky break, and it came in the form of the most important technological move of the 3rd century of mankind. The fitting of on board laser targeting missile salvos, capable of holding 15 missile each and providing a quick and explosive way of damaging a target beyond repair. The problem was that they produced a vast sum of heat. The MIA's were unable to cool themselves down, after firing more than 2 or 4 of these missiles. Salvos had to used, but the missiles had to be moved away from the main power source. This is why they moved to above the pilotÆs cockpit, where air movement removed just enough heat of to help cool the MIA down.

The missile salvos were devastated the Government MIAs. The explosions caused the internal computers in their MIAs to overheat, leaving them without a brain, and helplessly staring at an auto cannon or two.

The freedom fighters regained all of the southern continents. Making Australian their home base. The world is now split into two. The government resorted to re-building nuclear bombs. With all military operations about 500 metres underground, the Freedom Fighters are far from scared by this, but neither the less, the weapons were launched and the world's population shrank below the 50 million mark.

The freedom fighters, now mostly Australasian, begin to slowly grasp the control of the entire world, and the MIA is used continuously for battle purposes through the entire globe. The freedom fighters eventually prevailed over the government forces and by the year 2080 the world is at peace again. A peace with freedom, unknown to man, since the days before censorship.

Between the year of 2173 and 2244, the MIA is used to explore and to a small degree colonise Earth's closest neighbours, the moon, Venus and Mars are all thoroughly explored and the moon is colonised very quickly.

In 2296 MIA technology is advance to point where it is implemented into a modern fighter craft, and the star ship is built. The star ship was at first a slow ship able to move only within out solar system, functioning mainly as a 747 for the 23rd century. The MIA had now been made obsolete by these advancements in technology, and because it had no further military value, because the human race was too busy colonising the rest of the solar system.

The MIA is eventually recalled for service in 2833, when the Abbadon arrive and attack without mercy. It became the only form of defence against the 30 feet tall silicon based organisms. The old machines are unable to defeat the Abbadon, because the warriors controlling them are largely scientist and farmers. Genetic reproduction begins in 2834, and leads to productions of many fine warriors with amazing eye-sight and reflexes, they are dubbed "petries", and are given biblical Christian names, and two surnames, one from each gene pool. The warriors are only Hybrid and Human, and are soon the only enslaved people of their respected races. They form a rebellion force that is designed to fight the Abbadon in small battles, using the MIAs whereever possible. They begin to free slaves from the Abbadon farming colonies.

After about 70 years of these battles, and repetition breeding of these warriors, the gene pool becomes corrupt and the Warriors are forced to breed with released slaves. In 2914 the Hybrid eventually lost their home planet and was forced to evacuate to a secret location in the Alpha Centauri System. They build a Space Station, which orbits a dark moon, hidden from the suns light by the Waszuck Worm Hole. MIA technology is implanted into Geradi Ships, and the Dreadnauts are formed, appearing mostly like a MIA, except for the large hyper space engines, the Dreadnauts are piloted by the genetically formed warriors.

In 2990s, one Warrior begins to excel over the others, the reason being because he is the only pure human that they have left, produced from two slave parents, Vanessa Ross and Ben Smith, he is there greatest warrior. David, named after the Jewish King David, Ross-Simth was soon the leader of select crew of undercover warriors. The were are able to infiltrate Abbadon facilities dressed as women. (the Abbadon have refused to put the Human women to work in the fields. They were to work in Bars and other such places.) The group gathered intelligence, and then applied this intelligence to destroy vital Abbadon targets, using once again the MIA, a weapon handed to the human race by Gods.

Shareware is software that asks for a registration fee, either after a specific time or "if found useful". The fee may vary enormously and you are morally obligated to pay it or never use the program/game again. A leading shareware author once estimated that about 90% of users don't register. Registration usually brings to you a new version of the software and the author's support for any problem you have with it. Not to mention a warm glow of moral satisfaction.
