  22. I.   System requirements.
  23. ===========================================================================
  24. Any Microsoft Windows 3.1, or later, compatible system (minimum of 33Mhz
  25. 486 or better, 8Mb of RAM memory required, 12Mb or more recommended. Any
  26. Microsoft Windows 3.1, or later, compatible VGA graphics card and monitor.)
  27. Hard disk with at least 20 megabytes free and a 3.5 floppy disk drive. 
  28. Double-speed or better CD-ROM drive.

  31. II.  Installation instructions for NEBRL (where no previous
  32.      version of Logos Library System has been installed).
  33. ===========================================================================
  34. 1.   Insert NEBRL CD #1 (or Starter Edition CD) in your CD-ROM drive.
  35. 2.   If you are running Windows 3.1, select File...Run from the Program
  36.      Manager. If you are running Windows 95, 98, 2000, or ME select Start...Run from the
  37.      Taskbar, or, if you have Autoplay enabled, the Setup will automatic-
  38.      ally run.
  39. 3.   In the Run dialog's Command Line, type D:\SETUP (or the applicable
  40.      drive letter of your CD-ROM drive) then press ENTER.
  41. 4.   When prompted, click OK to select the default directories
  42.      C:\LOGOS20 and C:\LRSYSTEM, (or replace them with the desired drive
  43.      and directory settings and click OK). We recommend using the defaults.
  44. 5.   Enter your name and/or company information and click OK.
  45. 6.   The setup program will prompt you for confirmation that you entered
  46.      the correct information.If the information displayed is correct, click
  47.      CONTINUE. If the information displayed is NOT correct, click CHANGE
  48.      and repeat step #5.
  49. 7.   Specify the Program Group name where you want application icons to be
  50.      installed. The default location is "Nelson Electronic Library."
  51.      You may wish to click the down arrow and choose a different group or
  52.      type a new name for your own custom group. Click OK.
  53.      
  54. The setup executable will install the remaining files and when you see the
  55. "Installation Complete!" dialog, click OK, and you will then be ready to
  56. run NEBRL.
  57.  
  58.  
  59. III. Installation instructions for users who have previously
  60.      installed an earlier version of Logos Library System.
  61. ===========================================================================
  62. NOTE: If you have previously purchased and installed a copy of the Logos
  63. Bible Software v1.6, please disregard these instructions and install your
  64. new version of the Logos Library System according to the instructions in
  65. the previous section. 
  66.  
  67. If you have previously purchased and installed a copy of the Logos Library
  68. System v2.0, or v2.0a-v2.0e, please follow the instructions below to
  69. install NEBRL.
  70.  
  71. 1.   Open your existing version of Logos and select Tools...Backup System
  72.      Files.
  73. 2.   In the Backup System Files dialog, navigate to a directory other
  74.      than your \LOGOS20 or \LRSYSTEM directory and click OK.  This is a
  75.      backup Of your unlocking to be used if the installation process fails.
  76.      Please place the backup file in a temporary file on your hard drive or
  77.      put it on a floppy disk.
  78. 3.   Exit Logos.
  79. 4.   Insert the NEBRL CD #1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  80. 5.   In the Windows 3.1 Program Manager, select File...Run. On the Windows
  81.      95, 98, 2000, or ME taskbar, select Start...Run.
  82. 6.   In the Run dialog's Command Line, type D:\SETUP (or applicable drive
  83.      letter for your CD-ROM drive) then press ENTER.
  84. 7.   When prompted, click OK to select the default directory C:\LOGOS20.
  85.      If you have previously installed the Logos Library System v2.0, or 
  86.      v2.0a-v2.0e the text C:\LRSYSTEM will be grayed out and not editable.
  87.      If you have previously installed the Logos Library System v2.1 or
  88.      later,the path for the program files will also be grayed out. (These
  89.      settings are maintained in the [LRSystems] section of the WIN.INI
  90.      file.) We strongly recommend using the defaults.
  91. 8.   You will then be prompted to specify the Program Group name where you
  92.      want the application icons to be installed. If you wish to keep the
  93.      icons in the same group as the previous installation, click the down
  94.      arrow button and select the group name from the list, or you can type
  95.      in a new name for your own custom group. Click OK.
  96.  
  97. The setup executable will install the remaining files and when you see the
  98. "Installation Complete!" dialog, click OK, and you will then be ready to
  99. run NEBRL.

  102. IV.  Features not mentioned in the printed User's Guide.
  103. ===========================================================================

  105. New Logos Macros and their installation instructions
  106. ----------------------------------------------------
  107. In your C:\Logos20 directory, you will find five macros that are not
  108. mentioned in the Help file, electronic or printed User's Guide. The
  109. instructions for properly installing them are listed below:
  110.  
  111. Installation of the Logos20.Dot Macro for Word 95
  112. -------------------------------------------------
  113.   1.  The installation procedure automatically installed a file called
  114.       Logos20.DOT into your Logos20 directory. 
  115.   2.  Copy this template into your WINWORD\STARTUP directory and run Word.
  116.   3.  The template will automatically install two toolbar buttons for the
  117.       new macros.
  118.   
  119. Installation of the LogosWP8.wcm Macro in Word Perfect 8.0
  120. ----------------------------------------------------------
  121.   1.  Go to the Logos20 directory and find the LogosWP8.wcm file. Copy it
  122.       to the "Corel\Suite8\Macros\Wpwin" directory on your Hard drive.
  123.   2.  Start Word Perfect and click Tools from the pull down menu.
  124.   3.  From the pull down menu click on Settings.
  125.   4.  From the Settings Dialog box double click on Customize.
  126.   5.  From the Customize settings dialog box click on the Toolbars tab and
  127.       select the Word Perfect 8 Toolbar and Edit.
  128.   6.  From the Toolbar Editor dialog box click on the Macros tab and then
  129.       Add Macro.
  130.   7.  From the Select Macro dialog box find and click on the LogosWP8.wcm
  131.       file and then on select
  132.   8.  In the pop up box click on Yes. You should now have a button on your
  133.       toolbar to start the LogosWP8 macro.
  134.   9.  Then click on OK in the Toolbar Editor and Close on all other dialog
  135.       boxes
  136.   10. This will now make your icon on the toolbar ready to use. 
  137.   11. Clicking on the icon will now bring the insert verses dialog box up
  138.       so that you may now transfer text from Logos to Word Perfect without
  139.       going to Logos.
  140.   
  141. Installation of the Logosw8.dot macro file in Word97
  142. ----------------------------------------------------
  143.   1.  Copy the Logosw8.dot macro file to the "Program Files\Microsoft
  144.       Office\Office\Startup" directory.
  145.   2.  Start Logos21 and Word97.
  146.   3.  In Word97 make sure under View and Toolbars Logos macros is checked.
  147.   4.  You should now have two new Toolbar icons a Lighting bolt and a
  148.       Bookshelf.
  149.   5.  If you click on the Lighting bolt you will get the Insert verse
  150.       dialog box. You can now type in a verse and select a Bible version
  151.       and it will bring in that verse.
  152.   6.  The Bookshelf is for searching Logos21. Example if you type in Apple
  153.       it will search all your books in Logos for the word Apple. You will
  154.       need to switch to Logos21 to see the results.
  155.       
  156. Installation of the Logosw8b.exe macro file in Word 2000. 
  157. ---------------------------------------------------------      
  158. Go to http://www.logos.com/products/update/macros.asp and download the macro from Logos Research Systems.
  159.  
  160.  
  161. How to Setup the Insverse.smm Macro in Ami Pro
  162. ----------------------------------------------
  163.   1.  Copy the Insverse.smm macro from the C:\Logos20 directory to the
  164.       "C:\AmiPro\Macro" directory.
  165.   2.  Start Ami Pro and from the pull down menu select Tools, Macros,
  166.       Playback.
  167.   3.  Select the Insverse.smm macro from the Macros List.
  168.   4.  Put your cursor in the "Playback Shortcut Keys" box.
  169.   5.  Select the shortcut Keystroke you wish to use. (Example Ctrl+A).
  170.       Click on Save and then on OK.
  171.   6.  You can now start your Macro by using the Hot Key combination you've
  172.       assigned.
  173.   7.  To Insert a Verse or Verse Range type the Bible Reference, select a
  174.       Bible and Click OK.
  175.   
  176. Installation of the LogosWP7.wcm Macro in Word Perfect 7.0
  177. ----------------------------------------------------------
  178.   1.  Go to the Logos20 directory and find the LogosWP7.wcm file. Copy it
  179.       to the "Corel\Office7\Macros\Wpwin" directory on your Hard drive.
  180.   2.  Start Word Perfect and click Edit from the pull down menu.
  181.   3.  From the pull down menu, click on Preferences.
  182.   4.  From the Preferences dialog box click on Toolbar.
  183.   5.  From the Toolbar Preferences dialog box click on Edit.
  184.   6.  From the Toolbar Editor dialog box click on Play a Marco then add
  185.       Macro.
  186.   7.  From the Select Macro dialog box find and click on the LogosWP7.wcm
  187.       file and then on select.
  188.   8.  In the pop up box click on Yes. You should now have a button on your
  189.       toolbar to start the LogosWP7 macro.
  190.   9.  Then click on OK in the Toolbar Editor.
  191.   10. This will now make your icon on the toolbar ready to use.
  192.   11. Clicking on the icon will now bring the insert verses dialog box up
  193.       so that you may now transfer text from Logos to Word Perfect without
  194.       going to Logos.

  197. DDE Link to Parsons QuickVerse and other Bible Software
  198. -------------------------------------------------------
  199. Scrolling: NEBRL will scroll Seed Master, QuickVerse, and QuickVerse Lib-
  200. rary if the option "Scroll Bibles includes other Bible Software" is turned on in
  201. the DDE/DVI Panel of the Preferences dialog.
  202.  
  203. Bible Jumps: NEBRL will jump to locations in Seed Master, QuickVerse, and
  204. QuickVerse Library if bible jumps are turned on in the DDE/DVI Panel of the
  205. Preferences dialog.
  206.  
  207. Searching: Selecting the "Search Other Software..." option from the right
  208. mouse menu in NEBRL searches other Bible software programs in this order:
  209. QuickVerse, QuickVerse Library, Seed Master. If you have more than one of
  210. these applications running at the time the search is initiated, NEBRL will
  211. send its search command to the first application on the list. For example,
  212. if QuickVerse Library is listed in the Other Bible Software line in the
  213. DDE/DVI panel of the Preferences dialog in NEBRL, but QuickVerse is also
  214. running, NEBRL will send its search command to QuickVerse. To make NEBRL
  215. search QuickVerse Library instead of QuickVerse, close QuickVerse before
  216. running the search.
  217.  
  218. To set up QuickVerse for Windows 4.0 to run with NEBRL:
  219.  
  220. Open QuickVerse for Windows, select the Options menu, and choose Other
  221. applications... In the "QV Library" and "Dictionary" lines of this dialog,
  222. type the path and file name for Logos.exe.
  223.  
  224. Scrolling: QuickVerse for Windows will scroll books in Logos if "Synchronize
  225. QuickVerse Library..." is turned on in the Other Applications dialog in
  226. QuickVerse for Windows.
  227.  
  228. Bible Jumps:  Same as scrolling.
  229.  
  230. Searching:  Highlight a word in QuickVerse for Windows, click the QuickVerse
  231. Library toolbar button or select the Search menu and choose "QuickVerse
  232. Library" to search for the selected word in NEBRL. To perform an English
  233. Keylink search in NEBRL from QuickVerse, select the Search menu and choose
  234. Dictionary. Please refer to the NEBRL User's Guide for information on Keylinks
  235. in NEBRL.
  236.  
  237. To set up QuickVerse Library for Windows to run with NEBRL:
  238.  
  239. In QuickVerse Library, select the Options menu, then Preferences. In the
  240. "QuickVerse for Windows:" line of the Preferences dialog, type the path and
  241. file name for Logos.exe.
  242.  
  243. Scrolling: Automatic if the above step is taken.
  244.  
  245. Bible Jumps: Same as scrolling.
  246.  
  247. Searching: After selecting text. Either click the QuickVerse toolbar button
  248. or select the Search menu and choose QuickVerse to search NEBRL.
  249.  
  250. To set up QuickVerse for Windows 3.0 to work with NEBRL:
  251.  
  252. Follow the steps outlined for QuickVerse for Windows 4.0. Keep in mind that
  253. the QV Library option is not available so searching will be limited to an
  254. English Keylink search.
  255.  
  256.  
  257. Multiple Book Unlocking
  258. -----------------------
  259. Multiple Book Unlocking, simply stated, is a method of unlocking several
  260. books and/or collections at a time. Previously you had to purchase one
  261. book or collection at a time, and thus it was quite inconvenient to
  262. purchase several books or collections at once. Now when using the Unlock
  263. Book and Collection Browser dialog, you may choose just one or several books
  264. and/or collections to unlock at once. Simply select your books and/or
  265. collections one at a time and then click on the Add button. It will be
  266. added to a growing list of items to unlock. When you have selected all of
  267. the items you want to unlock, click on the Unlock button. You will be asked
  268. to read your code to the salesperson just once instead of once per book
  269. and/or collection. The same is true when unlocking via the Internet. You
  270. will only have to enter one unlock code into the Unlock dialog instead of
  271. entering one for each book or collection to be unlocked.

  274. Standardized References (SRs)
  275. -----------------------------
  276. In previous versions Bibles and commentaries could be linked and scrolled
  277. in parallel. However, there are many other types of books which were meant
  278. to be viewed in parallel using their own recognized organizational system.
  279. One such set of books is the Concordia Triglotta. Now you can link books
  280. such as the Concordia Triglotta and have the three books scroll together in
  281. parallel. Simply open the books that you want to scroll together, click on
  282. the links button on the book windows' toolbars, and set them all to the same
  283. link set.
  284.  
  285.  
  286. Standard Reference Hotspot Support
  287. ----------------------------------
  288. Just as you can click on hotspots in books that take you to particular
  289. articles and/or verses, now there is also support to jump to particular
  290. locations specified by SRs. Some SRs specify a particular book, and some
  291. don't specify any book. Those that specify a book will jump to the 
  292. appropriate SR location within that book only. Those that don't specify a 
  293. book will behave according to the configuration in the Standard References
  294. panel in the Preferences dialog.

  297. Standard References panel in the Preferences Dialog
  298. ---------------------------------------------------
  299. The Standard References panel allows the user to configure the behavior
  300. for SR hotspots. In this panel is a list of all active SR schemes supported
  301. by Logos Library System. To configure the behavior of any scheme, either
  302. click on the scheme in the Schemes list box and then click Configure, or
  303. double-click on the scheme. There are two behaviors for SR hotspots:
  304.  
  305. 1. Jump to the first book in the library that supports the scheme.
  306. 2. Jump to a particular book in the library.
  307.  
  308. In the Configure SR Scheme Behavior dialog, you can choose which behavior
  309. your selected scheme will have.
  310.  
  311.  
  312. Startup panel in the Preferences Dialog
  313. ---------------------------------------
  314. The Startup panel in the Preferences dialog allows the user to configure
  315. just what Logos Library System should do when it starts up. There are four
  316. choices:
  317.  
  318. 1. Do Nothing: Click on this button to have LLS do nothing on startup.
  319. 2. Load Books: Click on this button to have LLS load one or more books on
  320.    startup. Click on Add to add another book or article in a book. Click
  321.    on Delete to delete the selected book or article from the Startup
  322.    Books list.
  323. 3. Load Workspace: Click on this button to load a workspace on startup.
  324.    Select the desired workspace from the Workspace dropdown list. Turn on
  325.    Autosave Workspace to automatically save the workspace upon quitting
  326.    LLS.
  327. 4. Run Macro: Click on this button to run a macro on startup. Edit the
  328.    startup macro in the Startup Macro edit control.
  329.  
  330.  
  331. Interlinear Books
  332. -----------------
  333. Logos now supports Interlinear books such as the Interlinear version of the
  334. Nestle Aland 26th Edition Greek New Testament. To use Interlinear books,
  335. simply open them as you would any other book. To configure the interlinear
  336. display for the book, select Interlinear from the View menu. From this
  337. dialog you may configure what lines of data are displayed and in what order
  338. they are displayed.

  340.  
  341. Improved Global Word List
  342. -------------------------
  343. The Global Word List feature now only warns you of an out-of-date list
  344. when you have more books that it was built with, or if you now have newer
  345. versions of some of the books you already had. This means that if you
  346. sometimes run LLS with a CD in the drive and sometimes you don't, the
  347. Global Word List will no longer complain that the list is out of date
  348. since it can't find the books on the CD.
  349.  
  350. The Global Word List now allows the merging of multiple CDs together. To
  351. merge the words of two CDs, do the following:
  352.  
  353. 1) Run LLS with one CD in the drive. Build the list if necessary.
  354. 2) Exit LLS and run it again with the other CD in the drive.
  355. 3) When LLS warns you that the list is out-of-date, build it. It will
  356.    now merge the words from the 2nd CD with the words of the 1st CD.
  357. 4) Repeat steps 1-3 for as many LLS-compatible CDs as you run with.
  358.  
  359.  
  360. IntelliMouse Support
  361. --------------------
  362. NEBRL supports the Microsoft IntelliMouse on Windows 95. Placing the mouse
  363. cursor over a window and rolling the wheel will cause the window to scroll,
  364. even when you are in a dialog. Clicking the mouse wheel in a window turns on
  365. auto-scroll mode. The mouse cursor will change into a multi-directional
  366. cursor, indicating the directions in which you may now scroll. Moving the
  367. mouse in one of those directions causes the window to scroll in that
  368. direction. Clicking the mouse wheel again turns off auto-scroll mode.

  371. V.   Known problems and ways to work around them.
  372. ===========================================================================
  373.  
  374. Topic Browser not available Globally
  375. ------------------------------------
  376. If the Topic Browser cannot be opened globally or is not available when no
  377. books are open, the Global Word List is out of date and needs to be rebuilt.
  378. To rebuild the Global Word List, open NEBRL, select the Tools menu and choose
  379. Rebuild Global Word List.
  380.  
  381.  
  382. Use All Wildcard Matches
  383. ------------------------
  384. The search option Use All Wildcard Matches will only work if a Global Word
  385. List is available to NEBRL. If the Global Word List is available but not up
  386. to date, the Use All Wildcard Matches option will work, but the options
  387. presented will be limited to the words available in the available Global Word
  388. List.
  389.  
  390.  
  391. Installing NEBRL
  392. ----------------
  393. If you are installing NEBRL using the Windows 3.1 operating system, the
  394. installer will attempt to restart Windows after the icon is created. Manually
  395. reboot the computer at this point to reset the system. After restarting the
  396. machine, launch Windows 3.1 and continue working.
  397.  
  398. If the program seems to do nothing when the setup is run (CD is accessed,
  399. screen blinks and goes back to regular desktop), make sure all screensavers
  400. (such as "Slideshow") and other programs are shut down.
  401.  
  402. Starting NEBRL
  403. --------------
  404. If you have previously installed an earlier version of Logos Library System,
  405. the splash screen for that previous version might be replaced by a different
  406. splash screen.
  407.  
  408.  
  409. Printing
  410. --------
  411. If you are printing an article that contains graphics (i.e. the NEBRL User's
  412. Guide), the graphics print at a reduced size rather than their full size as
  413. viewed on screen. The reduction is directly related to the resolution of your
  414. printer. For instance, a 600 dpi printer will print the graphics 200% smaller
  415. than a 300 dpi printer.
  416.

  418. Search Ranges and Bibles with Alternate Book Orders
  419. ---------------------------------------------------
  420. Using pre-defined Verse Ranges or typing a custom Verse Range that uses
  421. hyphens to indicate a range of books in the Verse Range field of the Search
  422. Dialog will not always produce expected results. NEBRL uses the book order of
  423. the King James Version of the Bible for pre-defined search ranges. Several
  424. Bibles use book orders different than the King James Version, including, but
  425. not limited to the Tanakh, the Septuaginta, and the Biblia Hebraica
  426. Stuttgartensia.
  427.  
  428. If you are having difficulty expressing a range of books and finding correct
  429. results, try listing each book title individually in the Verse Range field.
  430.  
  431.  
  432. DVI and Windows 3.1x
  433. --------------------
  434. If you receive an error while trying to insert a verse with DVI or DVI does
  435. not insert the selected verse into the selected document, check the FILES=
  436. setting in the file CONFIG.SYS. The value at the end of this line should be
  437. at least 20, preferably 30, for DVI to work properly in Windows 3.1x.
  438.  
  439.  
  440. DVI and Some Word Processors
  441. ----------------------------
  442. Sometimes DVI is unable to properly paste the desired text from LLS into your
  443. word processor program. If you run DVI and find that nothing was pasted into
  444. your program, select Paste from the Edit menu of your word processor to
  445. complete the insertion.
  446.  
  447.  
  448. Viewing Citation Information in Word Processors
  449. -----------------------------------------------
  450. For word processors that support Rich Text Format (such as Microsoft Word).
  451. citations are inserted as footnotes. To view them, you must view the footnotes
  452. in your document. You can do this in Microsoft Word, for example, by either
  453. selecting "Footnotes" from the Edit menu or by selecting "Page Layout" from
  454. the View menu.
  455.  
  456. Jumps to Internet Sites and Windows 3.1x
  457. ----------------------------------------
  458. A hyper-text link to Nelson's World Wide Web page is available from within
  459. NEBRL. Select the Help menu option "Go To http://www.NelsonWordDirect.com". For
  460. this to work when running NEBRL on Windows 3.1x, the Internet browsing
  461. application must already be running in the background.
  462.  
  463. Boot Log
  464. --------
  465. If you are experiencing problems starting NEBRL, please start NEBRL by
  466. running "LOGOS /B" from File Run:
  467. 1. From Program Manager, select the File menu.
  468. 2. From the File menu, select Run.
  469. 3. In the Run dialog's Command Line, type 'C:\LOGOS20\LOGOS.EXE /B'and     click
  470. OK. After the error occurs, print C:\LOGOS20\BOOTLOG.LOG from Windows Write
  471. or other word processor (not Notepad). Please     have this information
  472. available when you call Nelson Tech Support.
  473. If you are experiencing problems starting NEBRL while running Windows 95,
  474. start NEBRL from a Run command as follows:
  475. 1.  Click on Start and then on Run.
  476. 2.  On the Open line, type in 'C:\LOGOS20\LOGOS.EXE /B' and then click     OK.
  477. After the error, find the file BOOTLOG.LOG in the LOGOS20 directory and
  478. double click on it. Take it to Wordpad, and print it out. Please have this
  479. information available when you call Nelson's Tech Support.
  480.  
  481.  
  482. Problems with Texts
  483. -------------------
  484. If you find that the text you are using seems to have errors, please check
  485. the Logos web site to see if a newer version of the text has been posted 
  486. for download.  Revisions to texts may be compiled and posted to the web 
  487. between standard CD releases.
  488.  
  489.  
  490. VI. Important Note About Searches
  491. =================================
  492. Unfortunately,  word proximity operators (WITHINWORD, BEFOREWORD, AFTERWORD)
  493. may yield spurious results in Hebrew and Greek searches.  It is recommend that
  494. you verify any results in these types of searches against a second reference
  495. source.  We apologize for this  inconvenience.
