  13. This utility is a viewer of graphic files under the operation of MS Windows.
  14. You will find this very useful especially when you use a high resolution 
  15. display.

  17. GVIEW.ZIP contains GV.EXE, GV.HLP, README.JPN and README.ENG.  
  18. README.JPN is the original documentation written by Japanese.  
  19. If you have a DOS/V by IBM or a Toshiba T series personal computer 
  20. with "JSYS", you can display README.JPN properly.

  22. **  GV.HLP is only for Japanese.  English version is not ready.

  25.   A graphic file viewer on Windows
  26.   This program changes palettes, when viewing 16 color data file, on VGA
  27.     (IBM-PC compatible) or on PC9801 by option.
  28.   Graphic formats include most prevalent graphic formats used in Japanese
  29.    computer networks, including GIF and JPEG format.
  30.  
  31. Among them, you to enjoy real colors, even if you are using fixed 
  32. palette environment like VGA or PC9801. (You know that under usual 
  33. circumstances, 16 color palettes are fixed in Windows. However this program
  34. changes the palette.)

  62. menu given by this program later. Also you may start this program associated
  63. with the graphic file by giving the name of <DataFile>.  Pleases use <Data 
  64. File> (name of the file) at the end of the options.

  76.  2. MAKI: MAKI01A, MAKI01B format developed by Maki-chan NET
  77.  3. Q4: Q4 format developed on PCVAN and NIFTY by the QLD-group
  78.  4. JPEG: JFIF format by JPEG
  79.  5. GIF: GIF format developed on CompuServe.
  80.  6. PIC: format developed by Mr. Yanagisawa for X68K (Sharp)
  81.  7. XBM: Bit map format used in X Windows
  82.  8. X: Modified XBM format developed by JUNET

  86.  Details of the display of the formats
  87.  MAG
  88.   Partial pictures are displayed as follows:
  89.   1) When no pictures are shown before the partial picture, it is shown
  90.      normally.
  91.   2) When the number of planes of the color is different from that of
  92.      the picture shown before, it is shown normally.
  93.   3) When the specified position is out of the range of the picture shown 
  94.      before, it is shown at the position where normally displayed.
  95.   4) When the size of data is more than 640 x 400, it is shown normally.
  96.   5) Otherwise, the partial picture data is displayed at the specified position
  97.      on the previous picture as a mixed graphics.

  99.  Q4
  100.   BAT file included in the Q4 graphic data is neglected.

  102.  JPEG
  103.   JFIF data format is displayed. 
  104.  
  105.     This software is based in part on the work of the Independent JPEG Group.

  107.  GIF
  108.   GIF87a and GIF89a(one file one graphic only) formats are displayed. 
  109.   Basically GIF87a is the format that this program supports.

  111.     The  Graphics  Interchange  Format(c)  is  the Copyright property of
  112.     CompuServe  Incorporated.  GIF(sm)  is  a  Service  Mark property of

  116.   You can change the aspect ratio.  This program supports the following
  117.   types; 0x00/0x01/0x03/0x11/0x21/0x52/0xC2/0x0F/0X1F/0XFF and 16/256/
  118.   4096/32K/64K colors.  This program does not support partial display.
  119.   
  120.  
  121.  BMP
  122.   Depend on the window versions, the color shown might be different. (For
  123.   example, NEC Windows and EPSON Windows even used on the same computer,
  124.   give you different results.)
  125.   This program didn't correct these differences.
  126.  
  127. >Other features
  128.  Basically this program is only used to show the graphic data. This program 
  129.  doesn't support the picture format conversion.  Besides this program can
  130.  do more on graphics displayed.
  131.  1) Copy/Paste with Clipboard (DIB,Bitmap)
  132.  2) Data save using BMP format.
  133.  3) Multiple graphic data can be shown by drag & drop
  134.  4) Right or left rotation
  135.  5) Linked display with multiple graphic data (auto/manual)

  141.  Copy/Paste
  142.   Copy to the clip board is based on the copy of both DIB and Bit mapped
  143.   formats simultaneously.  You may paste using DIB (prior) or Bit mapped
  144.   formats.

  146.  Data Save by BMP
  147.   Number of colors will be the same number which you used to show data.
  148.   When you want to save 256 colors using 16 color machine, you have to use
  149.   256 color, which is not beautiful.

  152.   You can select multiple files.  Use left button on the mouse to show the
  153.   menu.

  157.   Double click of the left button enable you to precede the file.

  162.   When you want to link the graphic data next to the picture already shown, 
  163.   you may use this feature. The size of the picture should fit to the 
  164.   size of the previous picture already shown. When you want to add the
  165.   picture to the left side, you should remember that the horizontal size of 
  166.   the picture has limitation.  You may use this feature especially when  you
  167.   display several Q4 formatted data files.
  168.  
  169.  Auto adjustment of the size
  170.   To adjust the window size on the available screen size, you may use this
  171.   feature.  This feature is useful especially after the rotation or the
  172.   movement.
  173.  
  174.  Comment display
  175.   Information on the graphic data are shown.  These include data size, 
  176.   number of colors and comments appeared in the header of the graphic file 
  177.   (header in MAG format, /*comment*/ in XBM format).

  179.  Document display
  180.   Document written on the DOC or Q4D file on the same directory can be 
  181.   shown using "notepad.exe" etc. (you may specify it.)  When you link 
  182.   several graphics, the common part is used as the name of the document
  183.   file.

  185. >More options
  186.   I am sorry! You find the forbidden options that depend on the machines.
  187.  1) PC98(N)  (/98, /98N)
  188.   When the graphic data consist of 16 colors (palettes) and are shown in
  189.   the active window, palettes are chosen from 4096 colors.  You should
  190.   use this option when you use PC9801 and NEC Windows.
  191.  2) PC98(E.0)  (/98E, /98E0)
  192.   When the graphic data consist of 16 colors (palettes) and are shown in
  193.   the active window, palettes are chosen from 4096 colors.  You should
  194.   use this option when you use PC9801 and EPSON Windows ver.3.0.
  195.   (The palettes used in EPSON Windows are different from those of NEC Windows.)
  196.  3) PC98(E.A)  (/98EA)
  197.   When the graphic data consist of 16 colors (palettes) and are shown in
  198.   the active window, palettes are chosen from 4096 colors.  You should
  199.   use this option when you use PC9801 and EPSON Windows ver.3.0A.
  200.   (The palette used in EPSON Windows differ between the versions.)
  201.  4) GA1024i (/GA)
  202.   When the graphic data consist of 16 colors (palettes) and are shown in
  203.   the active window, palettes are chosen from 16 million colors.  You should
  204.   use this option when you use PC9801 and GA1024i under fixed palette
  205.   window driver.
  206.  5) VGA (/VGA)
  207.   When the graphic data consist of 16 colors (palettes) and are shown in
  208.   the active window, palettes are chosen from 262144 colors.  You should
  209.   use this option when you use IBM-PC VGA.
  210.   (The color adjustment may not good in this version.)
  211.  6) OTHERS (default)
  212.   Under this default option, graphics data are shown dependent to the
  213.   graphic driver used in the windows.
  214.  7) Fixed Palette (/FP)
  215.   The above modifications of palettes information are good only when the
  216.   picture is in active window.  However when this option is on, the
  217.   information of palettes is good when the picture is not in active 
  218.   window.
  219.  
  220.  Other options are good in every machine.
  221.  8) Pager option for document display (/PG<pager>)
  222.   Please specify the name of the program which is used to display the
  223.   document file with path name.  Default is "notepad.exe".
  224.  9) Setting the default file type (/EXT=<TYPE>)
  225.   This option determine the graphic data file type at the beginning of this 
  226.   program.  <TYPE> can be the format which this program support and ALL.
  227.   When you don't select this option, the <TYPE> is MAG.
  228. 10) Zoom option (/ZM <ZoomRate>)
  229.   from 10% to 999%
  230. 11) Aspect Ratio (/AS <AspectRatio>)
  231.   from 50 to 250
  232. 12) Auto aspect setting (AA[+|-])
  233.   for PIC format
  234. 13) Directory option at start (/WD <DataDir>)
  235.   assign the directory for data of GV
  236. 14) Icon option (/ICON[+|-])
  237.   Start together with ICON
  238. 15) Re-drawing option when non-active (/UC[+/-])
  239.   When this option is on and GV.exe is in non-active window, this option
  240.   forces the re-drawing of the picture by adjusting the colors as truly as
  241.   possible (Slow).

  243. 16) Reduction of colors (/QT{-|={0|1|2}})

  251.   If the number of colors assigned is more than the number of colors, there
  252.   is no reduction of colors.

  259. 21) Assign the aspect ratio  (/APT={W|H|I|D})
  260.   W: adjustment of width to have a good aspect ratio.

  262.   I: adjust the aspect ratio to enlarge the picture.
  263.   D: adjust the aspect ratio to shrink the picture.
  264. 22) bit map option  (/BMP[+|-])
  265.   Quicker format of the internal data.  When - (off), you can save memory.
  266. 23) Image option on saving  (/VI[+|-])
  267.   When  you save the data, you use the same zoom and aspect ratio, if +.
  268. 24) Link option  (/AL[+|-])
  269.   Automatic link taking advantage of the name of the file according to the
  270.    following rules.
  271.   The program recognize the last one or two characters of the file name to
  272.   link the data file.

  400.   This program does not paste the logical palettes.  Therefore data exchange
  401.   might be in failure, when the application does not copy the DIB to clip
