  1. Welcome to ArcDIB version 2.1

  3. This file contains a brief summary of the what is contained in 
  4. this release along with information to help you get started.

  6. ArcDIB is an "image"-based database that allows you to easily 
  7. collect and organize image data from various sources and in 
  8. serveral different formats. 
  9.  
  10. Version 2.1 includes:

  14. - Drag-n-Drop support
  15. - Import "preview"
  16. - Thumbnail catalog printing
  17. - Support for vector graphics (see note below)

  23. - Enhanced JPEG support (8 and 24-bit color)
  24. - Background compression operation
  25. - Improved compression performance
  26. - Support for Microsoft Video for Windows (.AVI) files
  27. - Allows sound (.WAV) files to be attached to each image
  28. - Support for OLE (as a client)
  29. - Improved print functions

  46. INSTALLATION
  47.  
  48. The "BBS" version of ArcDIB requires very little to install. Simply
  49. ensure that all files are extracted into the same directory such as:
  50. C:\ARCDIB
  51.  
  52. Since ArcDIB is capable of Audio and Video playback, you should also
  53. make sure that any drivers for these devices are installed. They are
  54. not, however, required. You will simply receive an error message if you
  55. attempt to play a Video clip or any attached sound in an image.
  56.  
  57. ***NOTE***
  58. ArcDIB v2.1 now supports a variety of vector graphics formats. The 
  59. libraries that provide this capability proved to be a little too beefy
  60. for a BBS archive. It was decided not to include complete vector support
  61. in order to save connect time and also because some users may not want
  62. some of the less popular formats. All supported formats are listed in the 
  63. Import Utility File List drop-down box. If the format you desire does not
  64. import contact Tech Support and we'll arrange to get you the required DLL.

  66. RUNNING

  68. Once installation is complete, you are ready to run ArcDIB. 
  69. The main window consists of little more than a pulldown menu. 
  70. Select the Files/Open menu item and open up the SAMPLE.BIF file to 
  71. see an example of the type of data ArcDIB is capable of managing.

  73. ***NOTE***
  74. If you get an error message stating that it can't find "ARCIMG2.DLL", 
  75. copy ARCIMG1.DLL to ARCIMG2.DLL ->  copy arcimg1.dll arcimg2.dll

  79. The documention for ArcDIB consists of the Help File. Press F1 at 
  80. any time during the execution of the program to get context-sensitive 
  81. information.
