- | The World of |
- | |
- | AUTOFONT |
- | ~~~~~~~~~~ |
- * -- -- -- -- -- *
-
- AUTOFONT or AF.EXE is a world famous font maker used in electronic publishing.
- The prorgram achieves instant improvement of titles, headings, key words and
- announcements by instant conversion to large display fonts. Only AUTOFONT uses
- an easy-to-use ASCII format which permits you to use display fonts in standard
- DOS text files. Only AUTOFONT has the unbelievable FonTastik feature. Only
- with AUTOFONT may the display be saved in color as well as monochrome.
-
- Along with AF.EXE you have also received two other programs. The first of
- these, COLORFONT or CF.EXE allows you to colorize the text of any text file you
- are creating or working with. The second, READ.EXE displays any text file
- screen-by-screen, and if the file is colorized READ displays it in color. Add-
- itionally, you have received FonTastik HQ modules. Each of these is a small
- but powerful program which "fancies up" the appearance of our display fonts.
- Put all these together and you will be able to create a text file with large-
- font titles which you may readily view on-screen, page by page, with the added
- feature of color plus the on-screen magic of FonTastik mode.
-
- APPLICATIONS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The uses for AF display fonts are limited only by your imagination. Some
- uses are:
-
- 1. Titles in electronic publishing
- 2. Section headings in documents
- 3. BBS menus and title screens
- 4. On-screen announcements and memos
- 5. On-screen bulletins and notices
- 6. Loading into AUTODOC for text-in-graphics
- 7. In batch files for on-screen presentations
-
- ANSI DRIVER
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
- Be sure you have an ANSI driver loaded, or else you will be unable to use color
- in your large font headings. If you do not already have your system set up
- with an ANSI driver, use a text editor to add the words DEVICE=ANSI.SYS to your
- CONFIG.SYS file, and also be sure the file ANSI.SYS is in your root directory.
- If you do not have a CONFIG.SYS file, create and save a plain DOS text file
- (ASCII file) consisting of the words DEVICE=ANSI.SYS. Name the file CONFIG.SYS,
- and place it in your root directory. If you use a word processor be sure to
- save the file in ASCII (DOS text save). Once the above is accomplished your
- computer must be reset or restarted to load ANSI. It is very likely that your
- system has a newer version of ANSI, one example of which is called NANSI.SYS.
- If so you must use that name in the CONFIG.SYS file (e.g.:DEVICE=NANSI.SYS).
-
- USING AUTOFONT
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- AUTOFONT is virtually self-teaching and very user friendly. No studying of
- tedious instructions is needed. Type AF, touch "Enter" and then select the
- number of font files you want to work with. Next you'll see the font-selection
- menu. Touch "V" to see what's available. Then "Esc" and enter your choice(s).
-
- -2-
-
-
-
- MAIN MENU
- ~~~~~~~~~
-
- After you input your first line of text and touch your "Enter" key the main
- menu appears. Your input is displayed in the first font style you selected,
- in the large window at the top of the screen. If you selected more than one
- font style, touch "2" to see your text in the 2nd style, etc. Some font files
- contain upper and lowercase letters, while others have two different styles of
- lettering, one produced with Caps Lock "on" and another with Caps Lock "off."
- Move the display to the right with the right arrow key, and left with the left
- arrow. Use the arrow keys on the numeric keypad portion of your keyboard, not
- the "backspace" key. Text is centered with the down arrow key.
-
- The remaining menu options are described here:
-
- <F>ONTASTIK - Touch "F" followed by a number from 1 to 3 and immediately the
- current display will be magically transformed. You must see this to
- believe it. If you touch "V" while FonTastik mode is in operation your
- saved AF.TXT file will also be seen in changed form.
-
- <C>OLOR - Touch "C" followed by a number from 1 to 6 and at once the current
- display changes from gray to a brilliant color of your choice. Change
- colors as many times as you like before saving. When you touch "S" your
- display will be saved in the color you selected.
-
- <S>AVE - Saves the current display to your disk, in a file named AF.TXT. If
- you already have such a file from a previous session, your new saves will
- be added to it. Each subsequent save will add to the AF.TXT file. You
- may save the same display repeatedly if you need multiple copies; between
- saves you may change the color and/or font style with no need to retype.
-
- <J>OIN - Saves the current display with no blank line beneath it. This option
- is used for Fonts SD and SE if you want to put a solid "cap" on top of a
- row of letters, or if for some reason you want the solid background of each
- row of letters to blend together. It is also used for the super-jumbo Font
- SJ and the large graphics which are made by combining two capital letters
- when using the Font SH file. The top half of each jumbo font or graphic is
- saved with "J" instead of "S" to avoid a blank horizontal line in the
- center. The bottom half is saved with "S." Note: When "capping" a line of
- fonts (SD and SE) you may have to use a text editor to make the "cap" the
- same width as the lettering.
-
- <V>IEW - Displays the current AF.TXT so you may see your results immediately.
- If you save in color your computer must have an ANSI driver loaded in
- order for colors to be displayed in the View mode.
-
- <E>RASE - Touch "E" if you want to delete the file AF.TXT from your disk. You
- may do this any time you decide to "start over."
-
- <I>NPUT - Switches to the text input screen so you may type a new line of text.
- Use this as an "edit" mode if you want to revise the line of display fonts
- before saving. Simply retype the line and touch "Enter."
-
- <L>OAD - Returns you to the font selection menu so you may load from one to
- four font data files. The file(s) originally loaded will be replaced by
- new ones of your choice.
-
- -3-
-
-
-
- <D>OS-SHELL - Touch "D" and you will be temporarily out of the program and able
- to perform other computer chores. For example, you may want to rename
- AF.TXT to something like AF1.TXT, so when you re-enter the program your
- new saves will go into a new file. Re-enter by typing the word "exit."
- (Computers are amazing -- they let you enter through the exit!)
-
- <Q>UIT - Allows you to exit the program. Any "saves" will still be on your
- disk in the AF.TXT file, and you may view the file with our READ program.
-
- <???> - Touch the correct three keys in sequence and you will call up a colored
- box displaying the name of the author and two technical advisers.
-
- PREPARING FILES
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Four lines of the largest letters (not counting the super-jumbo SJ font) will
- fill a standard screen. If you use our companion program AUTODOC to add multi-
- ple colors and Decor-Edge Bord`rs, the available screen area will be reduced by
- the size of the Bord`r you select.
-
- Before preparing an entire document for printing or screen display, it is wise
- to plan ahead. Decide what you will need for titles and headings and make them
- in advance with AUTOFONT. Then load the AF.TXT file which you have created,
- into your text editor, and simply "type between the lines of display headings"
- to achieve your desired result. You should begin typing the text below the main
- title.
-
- The text editor will automatically move the rest of the AF font headings "down"
- as you type. When you reach the place at which you want your first chapter or
- section heading, cursor-move past your heading and type that section. Do the
- same with the rest of your headings and key words, etc., and the entire process
- is quick and easy.
-
- There are several ways to add an AUTOFONT-created title to an existing ASCII
- text file. Here is one way: If your title file is named AF.TXT and your text
- file is named, say, MYFILE.TXT, type the following DOS command:
-
- COPY AF.TXT + MYFILE.TXT
-
- Then touch your "Enter" key. The result will be a new file which has the title
- at the beginning, followed by your text. The name of the new file will initi-
- ally be AF.TXT, but you may rename this with the DOS "REN" command. (If your
- "COPY" sequence includes a new file name at the end, you will not need to re-
- name anything. Example: COPY FILE1.TXT + FILE2.TXT + FILE3.TXT NEWFILE.TXT
- will add 3 files together and name the combined file "NEWFILE.TXT.")
-
- USING A WORD PROCESSOR
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Most word processing programs use special codes to create the lines, boxes and
- other graphics. These codes will usually prevent importing AF fonts into the
- word processor, so do a test to determine whether your word processing program
- will accept AF fonts. If not, there are other options open to you:
-
- A. Prepare your document with your word processor in the usual way, and
- save it in the ASCII format rather than the specially coded format which
- is normally used by the word processor. Check your manual to determine
- which keys to touch for an "ASCII save." Then use the DOS "COPY" command
-
- -4-
-
-
-
- to combine your AUTOFONT "Title" file with your ASCII file. (It is pos-
- sible that your word processor "file-save" instructions may use the term
- "DOS Text File" rather than "ASCII." This has the same meaning.)
-
- B. Use the method given in "A" above, but instead of saving your entire
- document as one big file, save sections as separate ASCII files. These
- might be named TITLE.TXT, PART-A.TXT, PART-B.TXT, etc. Then use AUTOFONT
- to make separate headings. As you create these, rename them. You might
- name them TITLE.AF, PART-A.AF, PART-B.AF, and so on. Then it is easy to
- use the DOS "COPY" command to join them as follows:
-
- COPY TITLE.AF + TITLE.TXT + PART-A.AF + PART-A.TXT (etc.)
-
- As mentioned above, if you add a new file name to the sequence (with no
- "plus" sign) you will automatically get a big combined file with every-
- thing in order.
-
- C. You can ignore your full-blown word processor completely, and instead
- use a text editor (mini word processor) like AD-EDITOR which is included
- in the AUTODOC.EXE program. AD-EDITOR accepts AF fonts, and can even
- be used for creating your own graphic elements by using the ALT key with
- the number keys in the numeric keypad section of your keyboard.
-
- SCREEN DISPLAY OF YOUR PAGES
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Here is a way to quickly make a screen display of your file which can easily
- display one page after the other at the touch of a key.
-
- FIRST: prepare your text in separate files, one file for each page. Each file
- may be from 1 to 23 lines in length. This refers to standard computer lines,
- not lines of AF fonts. To do this you will use a text editor such as the AD-
- EDITOR which is part of REXXCOM's program AUTODOC. Give each file a name which
- will remind you of the order of pages, such as MYTEXT.01, MYTEXT.O2, etc.
-
- SECOND: Add blank lines beneath the text of each page-file, if needed, to make
- the file exactly 24 lines long (line 24 should always be left blank).
-
- THIRD: prepare a batch file program exactly as shown below using the names you
- gave to your individual page-files. This batch file should be typed and saved
- as a separate file. Use the same text editor used in preparing the page files.
-
- ECHO OFF
- CLS
- TYPE MYTEXT.01
- PAUSE
- CLS
- TYPE MYTEXT.02
- PAUSE
- CLS
- TYPE MYTEXT.03
- PAUSE
- CLS
-
- Your batch file program should look exactly as above, using your file names in
- place of the ones used in this illustration. Add as many page-files as really
- exist, making sure to have PAUSE and CLS on separate lines beneath each name.
-
- -5-
-
-
-
- You should name your batch file something like GO.BAT or README.BAT. Whatever
- name you use must have the extension "BAT" after the period. That's all there
- is to it! Then, so long as you have all the page-files on the disk along with
- the batch file your reader need only type GO or README or whatever name you've
- given, and your text will appear screen-by-screen!
-
- We have enclosed a sample set of 5 text files plus a batch file so you can try
- it right away to see the effect. Our files are named SAMPLE.1, SAMPLE.2, etc.,
- up to SAMPLE.5. The batch file is named SAMPLE.BAT, and all you need to do to
- see it in action is type the word SAMPLE and touch your Enter key.
-
- PRINTING YOUR FILE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- AUTOFONT's display fonts are primarily for on-screen display, but they may also
- be printed on paper. If you use a dot matrix or laser printer, you should be
- able to print your AF documents with little or no trouble. A laser printer
- should be set at 6O lines per page using a 10 or 12 point font which supports
- the IBM graphic characters (high ASCII characters or symbol set). On an HP
- Laser Jet set the font number to 32 on the control panel; for a smaller font
- set to 80 lines per page and use font number 38. If you are unable to produce
- a satisfactory result, check and double check your DOS User's Guide and your
- printer manual. Your printer manual may indicate the need to re-set a DIP
- switch in order to print "extended characters." The FonTastik effects, inclu-
- ding the Smoothy fonts, are not transferable to paper.
-
- If you are unable to obtain satisfactory printing results you may have to use a
- special program like PC-FONT2.EXE which is available as Shareware from numer-
- us sources. PC-FONT2 is not published by Rexxcom Systems, but it will be sent
- at no charge with the registered version of AUTOFONT.
-
- UPLOADING TO BULLETIN BOARDS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Many computer users are members of private bulletin board services. It is fun
- to upload messages composed of AF fonts made with AF.EXE! First, you must make
- certain that your BBS supports the IBM extended character set. This is easy to
- determine; computer bulletin boards which support extended characters will
- usually ask new members if their computer supports these. If you reply in the
- affirmative your BBS settings will be set up to permit you to send and receive
- (upload and download) AF fonts. With most BBSes this also includes the
- graphics produced with the function keys (F1, etc.).
-
- Once you are sure of the above, go ahead and prepare your AF file. When you are
- ready to upload it as a "message" to another member follow these simple rules:
- If you have saved your file with no colors (i.e. plain gray on black) you may
- use an ASCII upload. If it contains color you must upload it "with a protocol"
- such as XMODEM or SEA-LINK, etc.
-
- Remember, BBS members with computers or terminal emulators which support the
- extended characters are the ONLY people who will be able to see your AF fonts
- properly. Other users will not see the AF fonts. For this reason it is a good
- idea to confine your uploads to the "IBM" section of the BBS if it has such a
- message base. If the BBS also supports ANSI graphics, try uploading a file
- which contains color. This will amaze those members who have never seen a
- colored message in fancy, jumbo fonts. By the way, after you have enjoyed
- uploading AF messages for awhile you will want to amaze your computer friends
- with messages containing a multitude of different foreground and backgound
- colors. To do this and much more, get the programs AUTODOC and AUTOCOM.
-
- -6-
-
-
-
- FONTASTIK MODE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Try the program in its normal mode before you try FonTastik. Once you are
- ready to try FonTastik, select the <F> option at the font selection menu or at
- the main menu, and then enter a number (1, 2 or 3) to load one of five Fon-
- Tastik modules (HQ1 through HQ5). You will see the fonts on display change
- instantly to a new design. If you have more than one font data file loaded you
- may switch back and forth between them by touching the numbers 1 through 4
- (without touching F). Then touch F (FonTastik) followed by 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to
- change from one module to the next. (Note: This does not refer to the
- "function keys" such as F1, F2, etc.) When you touch V for the VIEW option to
- view your saved file, the FonTastik effect remains active. To exit FonTastik
- mode touch N for "normal." Another way to resume "normal" is by typing F
- followed by 0. The registered edition contains ten different FonTastik modules
- plus four "Smoothy" modules. The smoothies are explained in the next section.
-
- SMOOTHY MODE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
- A fourth FonTastik feature is Rexxcom's Smoothy mode, which brings you the best
- professional fonts in the program. These fonts have rounded edges and smooth
- diagonals instead of "the dreaded jaggies." To bring you this feature, the
- program brings you the modules HQS and HQSA (the S stands for "Smoothy"). To
- see the effect, run HQSA.COM by typing HQSA + "Enter" and run SCREENVU.COM by
- typing SCREENVU + "Enter." Page down to the screen which displays the Smoothy
- fonts. You may achieve the same effect within the program. Touch FS + "Enter"
- at the font-selection menu, and then touch V + "Enter." You may also use FS at
- the main font-typing menu when you are using Smoothy fonts. Select FONT-SK and
- FONT-SM to load several syles of Smoothy fonts, and try them out. Many of the
- other fonts also take on a better appearance in Smoothy mode. If your saved
- text is made with the Smoothy fonts, view your file outside the program by
- running HQSA.COM first.
-
- USING FONTASTIK OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- To use a FonTastik module outside the program, load one of the modules which
- contains the letter "A" -- HQ1A.COM, HQ2A.COM, HQ3A.COM, etc., or as explained
- above, run HQSA.COM for Smoothy mode. Simply type the name of the module you
- like (HQ1A through HQ5A, or HQSA) and touch "Enter." Then view a file, run a
- program, etc. You may discover that some programs reset the video mode and
- inactivate any module which may have been loaded. To over-ride this inacti-
- vation, try using the "I" option to install as a TSR (e.g.: HQ1A I). Uninstall
- with the "U" option (e.g.: HQ1A U). FonTastik will not remain in effect within
- MicroSoft's "Windows" no matter how hard you try.
-
- You may also use the non-A modules (HQ1.COM, etc.). These differ from those
- which contain the letter "A" in that they do not reset the video mode. If the
- video monitor is VGA or SVGA, the non-A modules produce vertical shortening
- which may be somewhat objectionable. Avoid this by running EGA.COM first. Use
- the non-A modules to achieve a "magical change." Run SAMPLE.BAT to see the
- change each time you touch a key when the "cats in a box" screen is visible.
- This was achieved with non-A modules. If the "A" modules are used the screen
- becomes momentarily blank during each change, and the effect is not as amazing.
-
- Any FonTastik module may be turned "off" by typing MODE CO80 and touching the
- Enter key. Aother way to turn off FonTastik is to run EGA.COM if you have an
- EGA monitor, or VGA.COM for a VGA monitor.
-
- -7-
-
-
-
- Since the FonTastik modules may be used with other programs and files, such as
- COM files made with AUTODOC and AUTOCOM, most users put them into a hard-drive
- directory which is named in the PATH established by the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
- Here is an example of a command line in an AUTOEXEC.BAT file, in which
- directories containing REXXCOM Systems programs are placed in the PATH. In
- this example, the FonTastik modules and the related programs EGA.COM, VGA.COM
- and NOR.COM, are actually located in the directory named UTIL:
-
- PATH C:\DOS;C:\UTIL;C:\AUTOFONT;C:\AUTODOC;C:\ANS2COM;C:\XL2001;C:\BATCH
-
- For more information on the subjects of PATH and AUTOEXEC.BAT, please refer to
- your DOS User's Guide and Reference.
-
- READ
- ~~~~
- Along with AUTOFONT you have received the handy Rexxcom program READ, which may
- be used to view AF.TXT or any ASCII file. Page-by-page display is provided,
- and the result is better than the "MORE" option of the latest versions of DOS.
- The DOS command TYPE FILENAME | MORE (where "FILENAME" is the name of a text
- file) produces a display of only 23 lines at a time, whereas READ FILENAME
- displays a full 24 lines, and you type 7 fewer keystrokes to make it happen.
- Use Ctrl+C to exit before end of text. Put READ.EXE in your root directory and
- you'll be able to use it wherever you are on your disk. If you want to use
- READ.EXE to display your AF.TXT file with the use of a FonTastik module, type
- READ AF.TXT 1 to display it with HQ1 installed; use 2 through 5 to select HQ2
- through HQ5. Use READ AF.TXT S for "Smoothy" mode. After you receive your
- registered version of AutoFont you will be able to use READ with all HQ modules
- plus "Smoothy" mode. (The unnumbered HQ.COM should also be present; READ.EXE
- accesses this small program for best results. If HQ.COM is not present a brief
- error message will appear just before your text is displayed by READ.EXE.)
-
- Remember that your text file may contain color, and it may be many screen-pages
- in length and still dispayable by READ. For best effect, review your file in a
- word processor or text editor to make sure none of the large-font headings
- extend from one 24-line screen to the next.
-
- NOTE: Before using READ.EXE be sure ANSI.SYS (or an equivalent ANSI driver) is
- active.
-
- COLORING YOUR JUMBO FONTS AND TEXT
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- With your large-font display at the top of the main menu touch C and then a
- number from 1 through 6. Change to another color as often as you like. When
- you save, the color will be saved. Resume plain gray with C + 0. COLORFONT
- (CF.EXE) is included to add color to the text portion of text files. Before
- using this program, be sure you have an ANSI driver loaded as explained above.
- To run COLORFONT type CF followed by a space and the name of your file. For
- example, to colorize a file named MY.TXT type: CF MY and touch "Enter." Do not
- type the file extension. The file may have any name, but the file extension
- must be TXT. Select one color from the menu of ten colors which appears. As
- soon as you choose a color, COLORFONT will make a copy of your text file as an
- ANSI with the extension ANS. The new file may be viewed with the program
- READ.EXE. For example, if MY.ANS has been spun off from MY.TXT, simply type
- READ MY.ANS and touch "Enter." To view the colorized file in a FonTastik mode
- you simply type READ AF.ANS 1 + "Enter." You may also use the numbers 2 and 3,
- and the letter S, for the other FonTastik modes.
-
- -8-
-
-
-
- It is easy to make an on-screen document whose title or heading is colored
- differently from the text. The first step is to create a colored large-font
- heading. AUTOFONT will save this as a text file named AF.TXT. Then use
- COLORFONT to colorize a text file in a color of your choice. If you originally
- saved it as MY.TXT, COLORFONT will spin off a colored file named MY.ANS. You
- might select white or another color. If you should choose "white" the result
- will be brighter than the usual color of text on your monitor, which is
- actually light grey. The new file will be named MY.ANS. Now all you have to
- do is add the two files together, either with a text editor or with the
- following DOS command:
-
- COPY AF.TXT + MY.ANS FINAL.TXT ("Enter")
-
- The above DOS command will create a file named FINAL.ANS which you may display
- with the program READ. You will be pleased to see your large-font heading in
- one color, and your text in the color you chose for it. Of course you may give
- the file any name you like, and you may insert additional headings, in dif-
- ferent colors if you like, and even change the color of the text portion from
- one page to the next, by making a series of files and joining them together.
-
- COLORFONT may be used to color the text of any previously uncolored text file.
- Try renaming AUTOFONT.DOC as AUTOFONT.TXT; then colorize it and view AUTO-
- FONT.ANS with the READ program. If you exit before the file's end with Ctrl+C
- the text on your monitor will remain colored until you run OFF.BAT. COLORFONT
- will not change the color of a previously colorized file.
-
- The colored fonts made with AUTOFONT may be used in the programs XL2001 and
- XLSHOW which are described on page 10. Some colors may show up better than
- others, depending on the background color being used.
-
-
- CREATING A STAND-ALONE COM FILE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Rexxcom COM files are unique and useful. Some Rexxcom programs produce files
- with scrollable text ... even text which auto-scrolls. Others, like our
- program ANS2COM produce one-screen files which flash their message onto the
- screen as soon as the file-name is typed and the "Enter" key is touched. An
- example is enclosed for you to check out. The name of the file is REXX.COM,
- and all you have to do is type REXX and touch your "Enter" key. REXX.COM was
- made a few minutes, using three programs, two of which you already have. We
- began with AUTOFONT to make the colored large-font headings. Then we typed a
- few lines of text in a text editor, saved it in a file, and colorized it with
- COLORFONT. We joined the files as explained in the preceding section, and used
- ANS2COM to make our COM. The words "Touch 'Esc' to exit" were added in another
- color with ANS2COM. (Try typing HQ1A + "Enter" and then REXX + "Enter." Also
- try with HQ2A, HQ3A, HQ4A, HQ5A and HQSA.)
-
- USING AF FONTS WITH DIFFERENT VIDEO SYSTEMS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- AUTOFONT itself is inoperable on CGA or monochrome systems, but once the fonts
- are placed in a file they may be displayed on such systems. If you create an
- ASCII file (DOS text file) which includes AutoFont fonts, the file itself will
- look fine on virtually any IBM compatible system. Exceptions to this rule are
- the "Smoothy" fonts (SK and SM) since the FonTastik modules require EGA or
- better to operate.
-
- -9-
-
-
-
- USING FONTASTIK MODES IN PROGRAMS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If you are a programmer, it is easy to use FonTastik mode, including the
- Smoothy fonts, within your programs. To see an example, take a look at AUTO-
- FONT's title screen. We used the 3D font from the registered version, plus
- font A2, to create our screen. The program shells out to DOS to load HQSA.COM
- for decoding the 3D font and converting font A2 to a more attractive font.
-
-
- INCOMPATIBILITY PROBLEMS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- REXXCOM programs are tested on as many different systems as possible in an
- effort to maintain compatibility with different computers. Some systems will
- not operate correctly unless certain special programs are included in the
- CONFIG.SYS file. We recently tested our programs on a new system and we were
- surprised to see "jumbling" of some of our screens. The screens cleared up
- only after a new version of ANSI.SYS was installed in the computer's CONFIG.SYS
- file and the computer was restarted. The dealer had not installed it. AUTO-
- FONT will function fully only if an ANSI driver is loaded.
-
- If you should happen to experience any difficulty with a program from REXXCOM
- Systems or any other software developer please do the following before
- requesting help:
-
- 1. Review the instructions very carefully to be sure you are following the
- directions exactly.
-
- 2. Review your computer system's user guide or manual to be sure your computer
- system is set up fully and correctly.
-
- CAUTION
- ~~~~~~~
- You may load up to 4 font data files simultaneously, and work with up to eight
- font styles at one time, with the exception of FONT-SH which is our "clip art"
- file. Because of the size of this file, you are likely to have a memory error
- if FONT-SH is loaded into the program with more than two other font files. If
- this should occur you may have to reset your computer.
-

- DESCRIPTIONS OF PROGRAMS AVAILABLE
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- WITH REGISTRATION OF AUTOFONT
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- AUTODOC
- ~~~~~~~
- Electronic Publishing Software in which your text files appear in vivid color
- for incredible visual impact! Your screens will have custom DecorEdge Bord`rs
- which must be seen to be believed! You touch a couple of keys and the most
- amazing changes occur in design and color. When your file is saved, your
- custom Bord`r is saved along with it. But that's not all. You may also let
