-
- Kodak Photo CD enabled applications are delivered with a copy of the Kodak
- Photo CD Access Developer Toolkit. The CDUPDATE utility is used to patch the
- delivered version of the Toolkit in order to upgrade it to a later version.
- CDUPDATE is capable of determining the current version of the Toolkit and
- automatically applies the corresponding patch.
-
- Run this update program after you have installed your Kodak Photo CD
- enabled application.
-
- o Insert the diskette labeled Kodak Photo CD Software Update
- for Windows in your floppy drive. (If you need a 5-1/4"
- diskette, please contact Kodak at 1-800-242-2424 ext. 53)
-
- o Using the Program Manager for Windows, select the File pull down
- menu and choose the Run selection. In the Run dialogue box, enter
- "<Drive_Name>:CDUDATE". NOTE: CDUPDATE is a DOS program and will
- be running in a DOS window.
-
- After invoking CDUPDATE, you will be prompted to enter the pathname of a
- directory containing a Photo CD enabled application. Simply pressing the
- <ENTER> key terminates the program.
-
- CDUPDATE looks in the specified directory for a file named PCDLIB.DLL,
- the Toolkit's primary dynamic link library module. It is recommended
- that a backup copy of the affected Toolkit files is made prior to
- executing CDUPDATE. These files are listed below. An application may
- not contain all of these files, but at least PCDLIB.DLL is always present.
-
- o PCDLIB.DLL
- o PCDXPCX.DLL
- o PCDXEPS.DLL
-
- CDUPDATE uses the following criteria to match a Toolkit version with
- an entry in the CDUPDATE data base:
-
- 1) File size matches at least one data base entry
- 2) Compute file checksum to determine unique data base entry
- 3) File size corresponding to the checksum entry still matches
- the actual file size
-
- After a match is made, CDUPDATE invokes the Patch program.
-
- The Patch program header and the following message is
- displayed:
-
- *--------------------------------*
- * UPDATING KODAK PHOTO CD ACCESS *
- * DEVELOPER TOOLKIT FROM *
- * Version <old> TO Version <new> *
- *--------------------------------*
-
- If the process is successful, the names of the files modified
- and some other statistics are displayed and the Patch program
- terminates and you will be prompted for another pathname.
-
- If Patch encounters an error, an error message is displayed. Typical errors
- are caused by trying to patch an unrecognized version of the Toolkit files.
-
- The following is a list of possible error messages that may be displayed by
- CDUPDATE along with a brief explanation.
-
- ERROR:
- *** ERROR: cannot locate PCDLIB.DLL
- Please check the pathname of the application
- MEANING:
- The specified directory of the Photo CD enabled application
- does not contain the Toolkit module PCDLIB.DLL.
-
- ERROR:
- *** ERROR: No size match for PCDLIB.DLL
- MEANING:
- The size of the PCDLIB.DLL file in the specified directory does
- not match any entry in the CDUPDATE data base. You may have
- attempted to apply the patch twice to the same library.
-
- ERROR:
- *** ERROR: File error while computing checksum
- MEANING:
- A system I/O error occurred while reading PCDLIB.DLL
-
- ERROR:
- *** ERROR: No checksum match for PCDLIB.DLL
- MEANING:
- The computed checksum of the PCDLIB.DLL file in the specified
- directory does not match any entry in the CDUPDATE data base
-
- ERROR:
- *** ERROR: No checksum match for PCDLIB.DLL
- MEANING:
- The unique data base entry corresponding to the computed file
- checksum does not match the file size of the PCDLIB.DLL module
-
- ERROR:
- *** ERROR: Cannot allocate checksum buffer space
- MEANING:
- CDUPDATE dynamically allocates a buffer used for computing the
- file checksum. This error indicates that sufficient memory is unavailable.
