  10. like you. Consequently I can not guarantee that this driver
  11. will function with every version of the Firmware inside the 
  12. CD Drive. But I did my best to test the driver.

  43. Installing the BusCd Driver
  44. ===========================
  45.  
  46. If you want to boot Windows NT from your CD-ROM please read
  47. the Section "Using the MiniCD Driver" first.
  48. Otherwise follow these instructions.
  49.  
  50. 1. Copy these files to a Diskette.
  51.  
  52. 2. Run Setup from the Administrator-Account.
  53.  
  54. 3. Install a new SCSI-Driver (Select OTHER)
  55.  
  56. 4. If the IO-Address of the bus adapter is 0x300
  57.    You can reboot the machine now.
  58.  
  59. 5. Otherwise start REGEDT32.EXE
  60.  
  61. 6. Setup should have created the following registry key:
  62.  
  63.    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BusCd
  64.  
  65.  
  66.    The following entries must be created (others may exist too):
  67.  
  68.     ErrorControl:REG_DWORD:0x1
  69.     Group:REG_SZ:SCSI CDROM Class
  70.     Start:REG_DWORD:0x1
  71.     Type:REG_DWORD:0x1

  73. 7. If your bus adapter has an address other than 0x300
  74.    create a new key "Parameters" under the "BusCd" key
  75.    and add a new value "BaseAddress" of type REG_DWORD
  76.    and the base address as it is jumpered on the adapter.

  82. 8. Restart your machine.

  84. 9. If something unpleasant happens during the system boot
  85.    the Last Known Good Configuration can be selected by pressing
  86.    the space bar after the "Ntdetect checking hardware..." message.

  91. Using the MiniCD Driver
  92. =======================
  93.  
  94. Since NT Setup will only load SCSI-MiniPort Drivers I recompiled
  95. buscd.sys as a MiniPort to be able to install Windows NT from the
  96. CD-ROM. If you have NT already installed by WINNT you can skip this.
  97.  
  98. If your CD has a base address other than 0x300 you must first patch
  99. the base address that is compiled into the MiniCD Driver. This should
  100. only be done using the program patch.exe as the following example
  101. demonstrates:

  108. The patch will only work if minicd.sys is in the current directory!
  109.  
  110. After the base address is corrected, the NT Setup can be started.
  111. You must use the Custom Setup (press "C"). Then you must install a 
  112. Custom-SCSI Adapter (press "S"). Insert now the Disk with the (patched)
  113. minicd.sys (and at least the file txtsetup.oem).

  117. After an hour or so, Windows NT will finally come up...
  118.

  121. One of the first things you should do is replace minicd.sys by buscd.sys.
  122. The reasons are:
  123.  
  124. - minicd.sys runs under NT too, but not very efficiently (the mouse will
  125.   move erratic for example when the CD is in use).
  126.  
  127. - minicd.sys does not contain Audio CD code. It has just what is required
  128.   to allow NT Setup to run.
  129.  
  130. - buscd.sys improves performance by using NT Executive Services which
  131.   are not available to MiniPorts.
  132.  
  133. To deinstall the MiniCD Driver simply open the Devices Icon of the
  134. Control Panel when logged in as Administrator and set "minicd" to
  135. disabled. After the next reboot you can delete minicd.sys from the
  136. directory %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers. You can also delete the
  137. entire Registry Key
  138.

  144. Then, to install BusCd continue at the previous Section.

  148. Incompatibilities
  149. =================
  150.  
  151. The BusCd driver is not suitable for system-boot.
  152.     Please use MiniCD instead!
  153.  
  154.  
  155. There may exist problems if this driver is used on systems with
  156.     a second SCSI-II CD-Drive. I have not tested this!
  157.  
  158.  
  159. The cdaudio filter-driver produces some error-logs when it
  160.     tries to send INTERNAL_DEVICE_CONTROLs to the buscd.sys.
  161.     This is harmless, but you can disable the cdaudio device
  162.     by klicking on the control panel icon "Devices" (not Drivers!)
  163.     and changing the startup of cdaudio to disabled. This has
  164.     nothing to do with the MCI CD Audio driver in the drivers
  165.     section - do not deinstall this one.
  166.     The cdaudio is only useful when a NEC, PIONEER DRM6XX,
  167.     DENON DRD 25X or HITACHI 1750S/1650S/3650 is installed in
  168.     the system.
