  70.  GETTING STARTED
  71.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  72.  The information provided below is to help you start the program for 
  73.  your hardware configuration.  For more details about the operation of 
  74.  the program press the F1 (function) key once you have started the 
  75.  program.

  77.  Once installed (see below for installation procedure) DRAFT Choice is 
  78.  started from DOS using the command: 
  79.  
  80.   C:> DC /Option1/Option2/Option3/.....     [ENTER]

  82.  where Option1, Option2, etc.  are options specifying the type of 
  83.  memory to use, the type of graphics video adaptor, etc.  For a 
  84.  complete description of these options, please print and consult the 
  85.  on-disk user's manual.

  115.  Installation on Floppy or Hard Disk:  
  116.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  117.  Although the program will work if installed on 360k diskettes, we 
  118.  recommend that the program is installed either on a hard disk, or a 
  119.  high density floppy diskette, since this will permit the help file, 
  120.  and other auxiliary files, to be available to the user.  
  121.  
  122.  *  If you Install and run DRAFT Choice from a floppy disk, without      
  123.  *  Expanded memory (EMS), or if the /NE command line switch is        
  124.  *  used, and you remove the DRAFT Choice program disk from  
  125.  *  the drive while the program is running, you will get an 
  126.  *  error message and will be instructed to re-insert the disk.
  127.    
  128.  If installing on 360k disks, you need to have at least two 360 
  129.  drives, e.g., A and B.  You cannot install the program on a 
  130.  computer with a single 360 K disk drive and no Hard Disk!  
  131.  
  132.  * Place the DRAFT Choice original diskette in drive A: (or B:)
  133.  
  134.  * Make sure the current logged drive is A: (Type A:, or B:, and 
  135.    press ENTER, if it is not).
  136.   
  137.  * Type INSTALL and press [ENTER].  Then, follow the simple on-screen 
  138.    instructions to install your copy of the program on the desired disk(s) 
  139.    and/or subdirectory.
  140.  
  141.    Note: If you are installing on 360K floppy disks, you will 
  142.          need multiple blank formatted diskettes!

  144.  On-Disk Documentation
  145.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  146.  The installation process extracts a file called DC20.MAN.  This is a 
  147.  ready-to-print formatted, User's manual for the program.  
  148.  
  149.  Following the installation, make sure that the DC20.MAN file is 
  150.  indeed on your default directory.  Then, to print this manual: 
  151.  
  152.  (1)  Make sure that the your printer is ON  and there is enough 
  153.       paper in it (the manual is about 100 pages).
  154.  
  155.  (2)  From the DOS prompt, type
  156.  
  157.       COPY DC20.MAN PRN and press [ENTER]
  158.  
  159.       Note that if your printer is connected to a SERIAL port,
  160.       then you need to use the command  COPY DC20.MAN COM1, or
  161.       COPY DC20.MAN COM2 (depending on which serial port your 
  162.       printer is connected to).
  163.   
  164. A NOTE ON PLOTTING
  165. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  166. The maximum number of dots that can be handled by DRAFT Choice (when 
  167. plotting to a printer), is based on a 360 dpi and 13" max plot width (hex 
  168. density on 24-pin printers).  The string of bytes sent to the printer for 
  169. each line is preceded and followed by 2 bytes (4-bytes total) which are 
  170. needed by the program. 
  171.  
  172. If a user is trying to plot a 16" wide drawing on a 9-pin printer (high 
  173. density), the max number of dots sent is [240 dpi * 16"] + 4 = 3844 dots.  
  174. Some printer buffers, however, cannot handle any more that 3840 dots per 
  175. line and the results, on such printers, would be unpredictable. 
  176.  
  177. If the user wishes to make sure that such a printer buffer overflow will 
  178. not occur, in the example given above, then the width should be set to 
  179. something slightly less that 16" (e.g., 15.95 inches). 
  180.  
  181. A NOTE ON MACROS
  182. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  183. Please, note that macro sequences (Option, Macro) are not saved with the 
  184. drawing file they are created in.  In order to save the macro sequences 
  185. you have created, you need to save the configuration file (File, Config, 
  186. Save Config).  Then, whenever you re-start the program the macros are 
  187. available to you.

  190.           NEW FEATURES in Ver 2.0 (NOT IN THE MANUAL)
  191. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  192. 1.  A new toggle switch is available Options, Toggle, EXTENTS.  
  193.     If EXTENTS is OFF, then an Image, All command sets the viewing 
  194.     window based on the scale/drawing border.  If it is ON then Image, 
  195.     All sets the viewing window based on the calculated extents of 
  196.     the drawing elements. 
  197.  
  198. 2.  When File selection dialogs are displayed, a file may now be 
  199.     selected by quickly double clicking on the file name.
  200.  
  201. 3.  UNDO is no longer limited to Edit, Delete operations!  
  202.     Furthermore, multiple UNDOs are now possible.  Created/Modified 
  203.     elements are placed in an UNDO buffer.  By repeatedly selecting 
  204.     UNDO, you can now Un-Draw, Un-Move, Un-Delete and in general 
  205.     reverse any previous action.  When the UNDO buffer is full, new 
  206.     actions get added to the buffer, while the 'oldest' ones get 
  207.     eliminated.  The user may PURGE the UNDO buffer at any time.  
  208.     CAUTION:  When the UNDO buffer is purged, any operations prior 
  209.     to that point cannot be UNDONE! 
  210.  
  211. 4.  When entering RELATIVE coordinates, if a third coordinate (Z) is 
  212.     specified then X and Z are interpreted as isometric coordinates, 
  213.     based on the current ISO angle (default is 30 degrees).
  214.     
  215. 5.  The maximum dot line buffer was increased to 4680 in order to 
  216.     support hex density on 24-pin, wide carriage printers, i.e., max 
  217.     image width = 13" x 360 dpi = 4680 dots. 
  218.  
  219. 6.  When specifying hatching patterns, in the DC.PAT file, the 
  220.     horizontal and vertical displacement is indirectly, tied to the 
  221.     drawing units through the 'SPACE' parameter in the Option, Style, 
  222.     or Alter, Style sub-menus. 
  223.  
  224. 7.  A new option is available under Measure, Dimension, Setup.  This 
  225.     new option specifies that there will be no dimension line drawn 
  226.     and that the dimension will be placed parallel to the second end 
  227.     point specified. 
  228.  
  229. 8.  When importing VALUE files, if a third coordinate (Z) is specified 
  230.     then X and Z are interpreted as isometric coordinates, based on 
  231.     the current ISO angle (default is 30 degrees), and relative to the 
  232.     X=0, Y=0  origin.

  235.      Major New Features/Modifications in DRAFT Choice Ver 2.00d/e
  236. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  237. 1.  A modification was made to correct the process of drawing an ellipse 
  238.     using the point method.  In earlier versions, the program would draw 
  239.     an ellipse where the major axis would be the diameter of the circle 
  240.     passing through the three points. 
  241.  
  242. 2.  The program was changed so that the file name of an imported symbol 
  243.     library or drawing file is not not automatically displayed as the 
  244.     name of the current drawing (until Image, Update).
  245.  
  246. 3.  A problem was corrected with importing WPG files.  DRAFT Choice would 
  247.     normally connect the end-points of a polyline that has a fill pattern 
  248.     assigned to it.  Now, if a WPG polyline is not closed, the fill 
  249.     pattern is turned off. 
  250.  
  251. 4.  The Edit, Array, Path command was modified to use real instead of 
  252.     integer coordinates for the slope interpolation.  This corrects the 
  253.     problem that might appear sometimes where each of the copied 
  254.     element(s) would be at different angles with the defined path. 
  255.  
  256. 5.  The bottom layer color indicator is now updated as soon as a new 
  257.     layer is selected as active.
  258.  
  259. 6.  A correction was made to the keyboard routine to avoid the problem of 
  260.     ending up with a temporarily corrupted screen if the TAB key was 
  261.     pressed when a value entry was expected by the program. 
  262.  
  263. 7.  The coordinate display is now temporarily disabled if the user is in 
  264.     the Measure, Query mode, in order to avoid the problem of the echoed 
  265.     coordinates overwriting the total segment length displayed at the 
  266.     bottom of the screen. 
  267.  
  268. 8.  A click was added to signify Pen Down and Pen Up during the Draw, 
  269.     Freehand mode.  
  270.  
  271. 9.  A modification was made to the routine that checks for the active 
  272.     drives available to the computer, by checking the DOS LASTDRIVE 
  273.     environment variable.   If LASTDRIVE=E, then drives A through E will 
  274.     be checked, otherwise, drives A through Z will be checked.  This 
  275.     should clear up some problems users were experiencing when using 
  276.     systems with multiple drives and using the DRIVER.SYS. 
  277.  
  278. 10. A modification was made not to allow values less than 1 to be entered 
  279.     as mouse sensitivity.  In earlier versions, a value of zero would 
  280.     result in problems because of the mouse driver. 
  281.  
  282. 11. The WPG exporting module was modified to correctly handle exporting 
  283.     arcs.  In earlier versions, the complementary arcs would be exported 
  284.     as closed polygons. 
  285.  
  286. 12. A correction was made to the Edit, Scale routine so that pressing 
  287.     escape now aborts the scale operation.  In earlier versions, the 
  288.     scaling would proceed even after ESC was pressed. 
  289.  
  290. 13. A modification was made so that the error message "... Unable to 
  291.     Open..." appears if a File, Save operation is executed with a write 
  292.     protected drive, or an attempt is made to save a symbol library with 
  293.     an illegal character in the filename.  In earlier versions, the error 
  294.     message "...Unable to Erase..." would appear instead. 
  295.  
  296. 14. A modification was made to the way the attach mode works.  In earlier 
  297.     versions, attach would be disabled for objects tagged for an editing 
  298.     operation, during the "FROM:" phase.  Now, attach is fully 
  299.     permissible during "FROM" and "TO" phases of an editing operation. 
  300.  
  301. 15. A modification was made so that the cross hair, now, does not assume 
  302.     the line style and thickness of the last line drawn, as it did in 
  303.     earlier versions. 
  304.  
  305. 16. A correction was made to the Measure, Query, Length command 
  306.     operation, so that complex lines drawn afterward are visible during 
  307.     the drawing process. In earlier versions, the complex lines would not 
  308.     become visible until they were completely drawn (ESC was pressed). 
  309.     
  310. 17. The program was modified so that filled complex entities do not 
  311.     disappear from the drawing after they are exploded. 
  312.     
  313. 18. The Scanned PCX import module was updated so that it does not corrupt 
  314.     text within a drawing when it is executed.       
  315.  
  316. 19. The help engine was modified to avoid the problem of generating an 
  317.     EMM386 exception error #12, when F1 was pressed many times in a row 
  318.     (earlier versions would try to re-enter the DC-Help routine every 
  319.     time.)

  321.  
  322. 20. Version 2.00e was released shortly after 2.00d to correct an error 
  323.     involving loading drawing files containing symbols.  Depending on 
  324.     the file size and the number of symbols, the program might be very 
  325.     slow when saving such a file and at times it might require re-
  326.     booting your computer.   Ver. 2.00e corrects that problem.
