Dear Customer :
Thank you very much for purchasing Story Book Weaver.
The following information was to late to be included in the
User's Guide. Please take the time to read it.
To run Storybook Weaver, you need an IBM(r)/Tandy(r) or compatible with
DOS 3.3 or higher and 640K or RAM. You also need a VGA or MCGA graphics
card, a 256-color monitor, and a hard disk. A mouse is highly recommended.
Storybook Weaver supports AdLib(r), Sound Blaster(r), and compatible sound
boards.
For printing, Storybook Weaver supports Epson(r) Series, IBM Proprinter(r)
Series, IBM Laserprinter(r) Series, Tandy DMP, HP LaserJet(tm) Series II and
III, and most monochrome and color 9-pin and 24-pin dot matrix graphic
printers, inkjet printers, and laser printers.
VGA Monitors:
If Storybook Weaver does not recognize your VGA card when you start the
program, try restarting it by typing SBW VGA at the DOS prompt. This
will force the program to run in color VGA mode.
Storybook Read-Only Engine:
Storybook Weaver has an option to save a story in "Read-Only" mode to
playback at a later time. This unique feature allows users to save
their story onto a floppy disk and send it to a friend to read.
The story can then be read by anyone who has the required hardware.
No additional program is necessary. Format a blank diskette and insert
it into the drive. Create your story and select the "Save As" option
from the "File Menu", choose A: or B: for the destination drive, and
click the "Read-Only" radio button, type a filename and click the "Save"
button. Once the story is saved to disk a message will ask if you want
to save the appropriate files to the same subdirectory.
Answer "Yes" to this question the first time. It is not necessary to
copy the files every time you save a Read Only story. To read a story
follow these steps. Boot your computer and get to a DOS prompt, switch
to the appropriate drive (A: or B:) Type the following command
READER filename.SBR. (i.e. READER MYSTORY.SBR). When reading "Read Only"
stories, users can only turn to the "Next Page", the "Previous Page"
or "Quit". No editing is available in this mode.
How to free-up RAM memory:
Storybook Weaver program needs approximately 520 KB of free RAM memory
to run. If you recieve a message that you do not have enough RAM
memory to run the software, try disabling some TSR's that load into
your computer's memory at the start-up time. Device drivers,
memory managers, screen savers are typical Terminate-and-Stay-Resident (TSR)
programs that load into RAM memory from CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files
in the root directory and run in the background.
Some program functions such as copying of greatly enlarged objects,
printing large stories with lots of pictures may also require more
RAM memory in order to execute the operation. In these cases freeing
up some additonal RAM memory will resolve the problem.
Remember, to start the program you need to be in the SBW subdirectoy and
type SBW at the DOS prompt.
We hope you will enjoy Storybook Weaver .
Sincerely,
MECC
