  6.     During the week of riots following the destruction of a 16th
  7. century mosque at Ayodhya, Indian police arrested nearly 6,000
  8. Hindus and Muslims in a nationwide crackdown. Public order has
  9. been restored, but the country's political crisis continues to
  10. deepen. Within minutes of reconvening, Parliament erupted in
  11. chaos as legislators locked horns over Prime Minister P.V.
  12. Narasimha Rao's dismissal of three state governments ruled by
  13. the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party. Rao's move may backfire
  14. if citizens demonstrate a preference for the B.J.P. leaders they
  15. elected.

  18.     WHO'S IN CHARGE HERE?

  20.     Once again, Khmer Rouge forces seized and held United Nations
  21. peacekeeping troops. Initially 21, mostly Indonesian
  22. paratroopers, were held for two days in a hamlet 100 miles north
  23. of Phnom Penh by about 70 heavily armed guerrillas, who refuse
  24. to cooperate with the U.N. peace plan; 46 U.N. troops
  25. negotiating to free them were also briefly detained before all
  26. were released. In a separate incident, the Khmer Rouge were
  27. holding nine others from the U.N. under a threat of death at
  28. week's end. The episodes cast doubts on both the U.N.'s
  29. credibility and Cambodia's plans for elections in May.
