  4. The FCC gives a tentative green light to video via microwave

  7.     How many ways can you take in the tube? Between broadcast
  8. television, cable TV, fiber-optic cable, digital compressed
  9. cable and variously sized satellite dishes, there may soon be
  10. as many delivery systems as there are channels to choose from.
  11. Now the FCC has added yet another wrinkle to videotic variety,
  12. tentatively approving a nationwide television-transmission
  13. system much like the one used to send and receive cellular phone
  14. calls.

  16.     The new system, developed by a New Jersey firm called
  17. CellularVision, has been operating in Brooklyn since July. It
  18. uses microwave signals of such high frequency that they can
  19. bounce off buildings and still be received by a window-mounted
  20. antenna no bigger than a magazine. The system, which could be
  21. available throughout New York City and in other major TV markets
  22. by mid-1994, can deliver as many channels as cable TV without
  23. the expense of having to wire up each individual home -- a
  24. prospect that could threaten the virtual monopoly that many
  25. cable companies currently enjoy.
