DIED. Dorothy Kirsten, 82, renowned and durable operatic
soprano; in Los Angeles. She began singing on radio in the 1930s
with the Kate Smith Chorus and later studied voice in Rome with
Astolfo Pescia. She made her operatic debut with the Chicago
Opera in Manon in 1940, and in 1945 she appeared in La Boheme
with New York City's Metropolitan Opera, where she remained for
30 years. An able actress, she appeared in The Great Caruso and
other films.
