  6. twice and the father of two children, was known among his
  7. intimidated colleagues as a supporting star whose talent often
  8. eclipsed the top of the bill. During World War II, he developed
  9. his thespian skills in a most unlikely venue -- a German POW
  10. camp. Recent triumphs included the warm-hearted socialist father
  11. in A Room with a View, and the endearingly doddering professor
  12. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
