PEOPLE, Page 83Woeful Woody, Take 29
By GINIA BELLAFANTE
It was another relentlessly rough week for Woody Allen --
nothing an extra decade or two on the couch couldn't cure. First
there was the bruising Vanity Fair expose of his seamy rift with
lover turned litigant MIA FARROW. In the lengthy opus, writer
Maureen Orth paints Woody as the sort of sadistic
self-esteem-sapping mate Oprah Winfrey has made a living warning
women against. Also detailed: Allen's alleged crazed obsession
with seven-year-old daughter Dylan. The article prompted Allen's
attorneys to threaten a libel suit against both magazine and
author. Later came more mudslinging, but this time from Attorney
General William Barr, who in a speech to a religious group
branded Woody's turmoil an example of our collective moral
decline.
