DIED. Philip Habib, 72, leading career diplomat who
influenced U.S. policy for three decades; of a heart attack; in
Puligny-Montrachet, France. Habib was head of the peace talks
in Paris that ended the Vietnam War. He helped arrange the
cease-fire in Lebanon and the P.L.O.'S withdrawal from that
country in 1982. He was also instrumental in persuading
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos to go into exile in 1986.
