PEOPLE, Page 97Real Live Roc
By MICHAEL QUINN
In the high-wire act of television, videotape is the
safety net. A flubbed line or failed joke can be edited into
oblivion. But for one TV series, the net is about to be removed:
starting this fall, the Fox sitcom Roc will be broadcast live.
Surprisingly, the daring deed is welcomed by Broadway actor
CHARLES S. DUTTON, a.k.a. Roc, the beleaguered Baltimore
garbageman. "Television is basically boring and unchallenging,"
says Dutton, now starring opposite Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3.
"You can learn lines the day you shoot. You don't have to put
in any concentration in the rehearsals. Going live will
intensify everything."
