  7.     Last month America;s best-known jazz trumpeter released a
  8. classical album. This month the nation's best-known classical
  9. trumpeter releases a jazz album. Both of these musicians are
  10. named WYNTON MARSALIS. The jazzman, 30, joins forces with the
  11. crystal-pure soprano of KATHLEEN BATTLE on the recording Baroque
  12. Duet. Meanwhile, the title cut on Blue Interlude, Marsalis' May
  13. release, relates in jazz the story of a pair of lovers. "In
  14. classical music," observes Marsalis, "there is no ground rhythm,
  15. because the drum set isn't playing. I concentrate more on
  16. pushing the rhythm -- but trying to play in the groove, which
  17. is important to all music." Later this month Marsalis premieres
  18. In This House, on This Morning, commissioned by Manhattan's
  19. Lincoln Center. "It uses the form of the African-American church
  20. service to evoke the same feelings of the spiritual experience."
