  4.     DIED. Ralph Lazo, 67, a non-Japanese American voluntarily
  5. interned in a World War II relocation camp; of liver cancer; in
  6. Los Angeles. When the internment of people of Japanese ancestry
  7. began in California in 1942, Lazo, who was of Mexican and Irish
  8. descent, decided to go with his Japanese-American friends to the
  9. Manzanar Relocation Center. He later explained, "These people
  10. hadn't done anything that I hadn't done except to go to Japanese
  11. language school." Lazo was subsequently drafted by the Army and
  12. was awarded a Bronze Star for heroism in combat.
