PEOPLE, Page 63Son of 3-D?
By MICHAEL QUINN
The '50s brought us the airborne axes and knives of 3-D
cinema. The '70s saw Sensurround -- huge speakers that uncannily
duplicated the experience of listening to huge speakers. Now
comes "virtual reality," a high-tech process that envelops
viewers in a world of computer-generated images. Usually this
requires wearing a helmet that would have embarrassed Captain
Video. But The Lawnmower Man, due in March, tries to re-create
virtual reality for seatbound moviegoers. A tale of science run
amuck, it features rising stars Jeff Fahey and Jenny Wright
making literal love in virtual reality.
