  7.     Singer RUBEN BLADES has conquered the Spanish-speaking
  8. world with his mix of salsa and social consciousness, and won
  9. over the rest of the globe with his movie roles. Now Blades
  10. faces the toughest audience yet -- his native Panama, where last
  11. month Blades began investigating a possible run for the
  12. Panamanian presidency. While not formally declared, the
  13. Harvard-trained lawyer surely notices the piddling popularity
  14. of current President Guillermo Endara. Presidente Blades might
  15. not be music to the ears of the U.S. State Department, however.
  16. His song Tiburon compares interlopers in Latin America to a
  17. marauding shark.
