QuikMemo
DT: 12/08/88
TO: New User
FR: HEP Computer Services
SJ: QuikMemo Instructions
QuikMemo Ver. 2.0 allows you to create and print QUICK memo's or
Letter's. It maintains a list of USER names to select from, that is,
a list of names (your's being one of them) that you select from, which
eliminates entering your name repeatedly.
QuikMemo also maintains a list of names you frequently send Memo's or
Letter's to, this eliminates having to re-enter the name and mail
station (if applicable) each time a Memo/Letter is being created to
send to this person.
QuikMemo options include editing Memo's/Letter's, deleting and
printing Memo's/Letter's and creating an alternate text file which
contains your entire Memo/Letter. The alternate file can be used for
electronic mail or sending via a diskette to the addressee, etc.
FLASH! QuikMemo now comes with a SPELLER, not as sophisticated as a
real word processor, but it will give a correct spelling for over
19,000 words, and you can add to that if you wish.
QuikMemo is released under the SHAREWARE concept, which means you can
try it out free of charge, but if you decide to continue using it, you
must send the requested donation to the author.
The requested donation is $ 15.00 for the first user and an additional
$ 5.00 for each additional user. If you end up with (5) names on the
USER name list, that would be $ 35.00. In order for the SHAREWARE
concept to work, users of SHAREWARE products must support the authors
by being honest and supporting the concept so that it will continue
and the authors will enhance and support their programs.
Print the file REGISTER.FRM, fill it out, and along with the requested
donation, send it to:

QuikMemo Instructions:
Step #1
Make a Sub-directory with name of your choice, i.e MEMO.
Step #2
Copy contents of QuikMemo diskette to the new sub-directory. The
SPELLER Database plus the SPELLER Database Index (that QuikMemo
creates) takes up about 1M of disk space. If you can't spare the disk
space, either erase the diction.DBF and .NTX or don't copy the .DBF to
your subdirectory, Quikmemo will detect their absence and the SPELLER
will be disabled.
Step #3
Change to i.e C:>MEMO (assuming you have a hard disk) and type
"QUIKMEMO", press <ENTER>. The first time you run QuikMemo, there
will be a pause when you leave the Main Menu to select a User, Select
a Send To Name or Create a Memo/Letter. When this occurs, it is due
to QuikMemo creating index files for your databases, there will be an
especially long pause if you are going to use the SPELLER.
NOTE: Don't try to use the SPELLER database on a floppy drive, there's
no room for it.
Step #4
Press downarrow once (moves litebar to Select/Add User Name option)
and press <ENTER>. (option: press <S>)
Step #5
Press <A> or <a> to add your name as a user (at other times you may
use <C> or <c> to change your name, <S> or <s> to select your name as
the current user or <D> or <d> to delete your name). You must input a
SURNAME or you will not be allowed to leave the entry window.
Step #6
Upon return to the Main Menu Window, press the downarrow once and
press <ENTER> to create a Memo or Letter. (option: press <C>)
Step #7
Move litebar to Memo and press <ENTER> (option, press <M> to create a
Memo with a pre-defined format, or move litebar to Letter (option:
press <L>) to create a Letter with a pre-defined format or move
litebar to Freeform (option: <F>) to create a Memo or a Letter with
your format.
Step #8
Press <I> or <i> to Input the name of the person you are sending the
Memo/Letter to, enter name and mail station (if applicable) and press
<ENTER>. You will be prompted as to whether you want the name saved
or not, Press 'Y' and the name will be saved so that you can select it
from a <L>ist next time you send a Memo/Letter to this person
(eliminates having to input the name and mail station again). You may
also <D>elete a name from the list at this time.
Step #9
If you choose Memo, enter the subject of your Memo and press <ENTER>.
Step #10
If you have opted to create a Memo and wish to copy others, enter
CC: Other Name(s) at the [ Enter Text ] prompt and continue entering
the text of your Memo one or two lines below the CC:. Otherwise enter
text only (press <F3> for help with navigational, editing and escape
keys). To use the SPELLER, position the cursor under the first letter
you need the spelling for (or where you want the word input) and press
<F4>. If your cursor is positioned somewhwere on the left side of the
screen, a box will appear on the right of the screen and visa versa if
the cursor is positioned on the right side of the screen. Enter the
first, first 2 or the first 3 characters of the word you need the
spelling for (lower case only). A list of words meeting your criteria
will appear, move the LiteBar (with the up and down arrows) over the
word you were looking for, if the word is not there, choose "Exit, No
Selection". If you do choose a word, it will be input where ever your
cursor is positioned (note, you may have to do a little clean-up), if
you select "Exit, No Selection" your cursor will return to it's
original position. If you find the spelling elsewhere, it can be
added to the list by pressing <F5>, press <F5>, enter the word and
press <ENTER>. A word can be deleted from the list by pressing <F6>
and selecting the word like you would if you were looking for the
spelling. When input is done, press CTRL-W to exit and save.
TIP: You can use other dBASE III+ editing keys i.e CTRL-N or CTRL-Y
for inserting and deleting blank lines.
Step #11
<ENTER> 'Y' to print Memo or Letter, or 'N' to return to Main Menu.
Step #12
Other options include, Delete a Memo or Letter, Creating a Alternate
text file, which could be used for electronic mail, etc. Print a
selected Memo or Letter. View current sub-directory (to check for
alternate files).
Notes:
Each time you enter QuikMemo, you must select the Select/Add User Name
option to select your name as the current user. If this is not done
the user with the lowest alphabetic value (record #1) will be the
current user and his/her name will be printed on the Memo or Letter.
If you select your user name, and then go back and change it (your
surname), you must go back again and re-select it from the list.
When exiting QuikMemo, the file which contains the memo data (.DBT)
is packed to conserve on disk space. Depending on the size of the .DBT
file, a short delay will occur.
To select color, press <ALT-K> (while at the Main Menu), and answer
"Y" or "N" to the prompt.
If you are a CLIPPER developer and would like to obtain the procedure
for the SPELLER to use in your applications, send $ 10.00 and a
formatted diskette along with a stamped, self addressed diskette
mailer and you'll receive it along with the code for the procedure
used to make selections (much like the ACHOICE() function, but is more
flexible).
