NGARG New Generation APL Research Group General Information
___________________________________________________________________________
NGARG - New Generation APL Research Group - is an international group of
people interested in theoretic aspects of the programming language APL. The
group was founded in fall 1984 and currently has members in Europe and
Australia. Legally, the group is organized as a society according to Swiss
law.
The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for exchanging ideas about
design, implementation and application of future versions of APL. Current
topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
APL's relation to other modern languages such as Smalltalk, LISP and
functional programming.
Unification of APL's objects and its environment. Collection of objects,
``hierarchic environments''.
Efficiency and rationalization of implementations. APL on non von Neumann
computer architectures, APL compilers.
User friendly environments using current and future technologies such as
raster scan displays and mice.
Ideas and results are sporadically published in informal
memos, which are distributed to the members and other interested parties.
Research results might be published in a more formal way.
