  9. As explained in the submission message, this file is called viterbi.tar.Z. It
  10. contains a piece of software for the IBM PC, both in source form and executable
  11. form, as well as a couple of README files.
  12.  
  13. The purpose of the program is to demonstrate the operation of convolutional
  14. encoders/decoders, also known as trellis codes (or the Viterbi algorithm). The
  15. source code to this program comes from Appendix A of Sklar's textbook on
  16. Digital Communications. Having followed his 1-week course, I was given this
  17. program by Prof. Sklar on a diskette, just like all the other students.

  19. I have obtained specific permission from Prof. Sklar to submit this
  20. software for inclusion in the Telecom Archives, provided the credits
  21. are kept intact (they are in the file READ.ME).
