- SCSI Preferences for the Amiga 3000
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- by Martin A. Blatter (blatter@ifi.unizh.ch)
-
- This small program allows you to change the bits in the Amiga 3000's
- battery backed up memory that control some parameters of the embedded
- SCSI host adaptor.
-
- IT REQUIRES AMIGADOS 2.0 OR HIGHER AND AN A3000! It won't run on an
- A2000!
-
- SCSI Prefs is Freely Distributable Software. The entire risk as to the
- quality and performance of this programs is with you.
-
- Put SCSI Prefs in your prefs directory. It offers the same look and
- feel as the standard 2.0 Preferences editors, so you'll imediately
- find yourself familiar with its user interface.
-
- --------------------------------------- Long SCSI Timeout (Seacrate Mode)
-
- This checkbox determines how long the host adaptor waits for connected
- drives. It's especially useful for owners of drives that take a long
- time to spin up. Drives manufactured by Seagate are candidates for this
- setting. With this option enabled the controller will wait 2 seconds
- instead of 128 ms.
-
- (Some drives by Imprimis and Maxtor also need long timeouts)
-
- ---------------------------------------------------- Synchronous Transfer
-
- When this option is enabled, the host adaptor will initiate synchronous
- transfers (hence the name of this option :-) with hard drivers capable
- of doing them.
-
- (Hard drives made by Imprimis, Conner Peripherals and Quantum Fujitsu
- usually support synchronous transfers)
-
- --------------------------------------------------- Support Multiple LUNs
-
- Each SCSI ID can support several Logical Unit Numbers. I can't think of
- a use for more than one LUN right now, but that situation can change...
-
- Leave this option disabled for now, beacause it apparently can cause
- troubles with hard drives that respond on more than one LUN address.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------- Host Adaptor SCSI ID
-
- The Amiga (resp. its SCSI controller) is usually set to SCSI address 7.
- If you want to use a SCSI device with your Amiga that can't be jumpered to
- another address than 7 , you'll have to type in another number here. Be
- sure not to use a SCSI ID that is already assigned to device attached
- to your Amiga. (The internal Quantum hard drive is set to SCSI ID 6).
-
- The value of SCSI ID's can range from 0 to 7.
-
- Take care! If you experiment with SCSI ID's, always keep a copy of this
- program on a disk. Your hard drive won't boot if both, the Amiga and your
- hard drive have the same SCSI ID...
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Note
-
- All changes made with SCSI Preferences won't have an effect until you
- reset your Amiga.
