The Russians launched a massive attack at the Oder line, while the Allies made an assault on the Rhine and raided Berlin. The Allies assembled a massive armed force for the Berlin offensive: 150 divisions; 2. 5 million soldiers; 41, 600 guns; 6, 300 armored vehicles; and over 8, 400 planes. The Germans, on the other hand, had merely 30 divisions with which to save the capital of the Third Reich. The massive Allied offensive and Germany's struggle for survival began on April 16, 1945.
