OCR: The First Air War Final Victory April 1918 was a turning point. The German push on the ground was attempted to bring the war to a conclusion before the entry of the Americans. Although, initially successful, the initiative was thwarted. The death of the 'invincible' Baron Richthofen at the end of the month was a further blow to the German morale. New German aircraft were introduced between April and the Armistice in November, but the end was inevitable. This was a period of attrition and a battle for survival. THE MISSION Von Richthofen in his Scarlet Fokker Triplane is in the midst of a dogfight. He notices a Camel leave the area alone and decides to follow. Page 9
