The star network is a type of local area network (LAN) named for its star-like layout. Each device, or node, is connected to a central computer, the hub. The radiating spokes from the hub to the nodes give it the star configuration. In the star network, data is transmitted from a node to the hub, then from the hub directly to the node to which it is addressed. If the hub computer malfunctions, the whole network will collapses, but the malfunction of any individual node will not affect any of the others.
