  112. TUTORIAL
  113.  
  114. There is an on-line tutorial available to you once you execute
  115. CRUSADE from Windows.  It is located within the HELP information
  116. which can be accessed by selecting the "Help" menu item.
  117.  
  118. Installation instructions are provided later in this file.

  120. The crusade contained in this shareware version is called
  121. "sharstar.g" and takes place within the SharStar Galaxy.  It is the
  122. first crusade you should play with this version of CRUSADE.
  123. Instructions for loading the crusade can be found within the
  124. tutorial.
  125.  
  126. A more difficult crusade is provided called "hardstar.g" which you
  127. should play after completing the "sharstar.g" crusade.
  128.  
  129. CRUSADE COMPUTER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  130.  
  131. The CRUSADE game requires MS Windows 3.1 or Windows95 to run.  Your
  132. computer should be an IBM PC Compatible 386, 486 or Pentium that
  133. operates at 25Hz or faster, and contains at least 4MB of Memory.
  134. CRUSADE needs 4MB of free hard disk storage to uncompress and
  135. operate.
  136.  
  137. If you have a 386 based computer, then you should play CRUSADE at
  138. the 640x480x16 resolution to obtain the best game performance.
  139.  
  140. If you have a 486 based computer, then you can play CRUSADE up to
  141. the 800x600x256 resolution for the best performance.  CRUSADE can
  142. play at higher resolutions.  However, CRUSADE will perform better at
  143. the lower resolutions.
  144.  
  145. If you have a Pentium based computer, then you should enjoy
  146. excellent performance from CRUSADE at any supported resolution.

  148. SOUND CARD SUPPORT
  149.  
  150. Sound Support is provided through the use of MPC2 Compatible
  151. Soundcards.  Most of the popular soundcards (SoundBlaster, Pro
  152. Audio, Turtle Beach, etc.) are MPC2 Compatible.  The soundcard
  153. package typically contains a symbol that indicates MS Windows
  154. compatibility, which often, but not always, means the soundcard is
  155. MPC2 Compatible.  If you have a question regarding your soundcard,
  156. then contact the dealer where you obtained the soundcard, or better
  157. yet, contact the manufacturer of the soundcard.

  159. INSTALLATION
  160.  
  161. CRUSADE can be installed using a "setup.exe" program contained
  162. within the zip file or by using the Program Manager in Windows.
  163.  
  164. You should place the 1CRU117.ZIP file in a directory of its own, and
  165. use PKUNZIP to unzip it.
  166.  
  167. USING "SETUP.EXE" TO INSTALL CRUSADE
  168.  
  169. After unzipping the Crusade in Space file, use the Program Manger in
  170. Windows to run the installation setup program, "setup.exe".
  171.  
  172. From the Program Manager menu:
  173.  
  174. 1) Select FILE/RUN.
  175. 2) Select BROWSE.  Select the disk/directory where the unzipped
  176.    contents of 1CRU117.ZIP currently reside.
  177. 3) Select "setup.exe" from the list of files extracted from
  178.    1CRU117.ZIP and click OK.
  179. 4) Follow the prompts provided by the setup program to move CRUSADE
  180.    to another disk/directory, and to create a program item to
  181.    execute it.
  182.  
  183. USING PROGRAM MANAGER TO INSTALL CRUSADE
  184.  
  185. After unzipping the shareware file, use the Program Manger in
  186. Windows to create a program item for CRUSADE, which should execute
  187. the "star.exe" program.
  188.  
  189. From the Program Manager menu:
  190.  
  191. 1) Select FILE/NEW.  Accept the "Program Item" setting and click OK.
  192. 2) Enter "Crusade in Space" in the "Description" field.
  193. 3) Select BROWSE.  Select the disk/directory where the unzipped
  194.    contents of CIS117.ZIP currently reside.
  195. 4) Select "star.exe" from the list of files extracted from
  196.    1CRU117.ZIP and click OK.
  197. 5) Enter the complete path (disk/directory) where the unzipped
  198.    contents of the shareware version currently reside, in the
  199.    "Working Directory" field.
  200. 6) Select CHANGE ICON, select the CRUSADE icon.
  201. 7) Click OK to complete the creation of the program item.

  203. REGISTRATION
  204.  
  205. When you register CRUSADE you will receive the CRUSADE GENERATOR
  206. which will allow you to create an unlimited number of variably sized
  207. and populated galaxys with the "Galaxy Generation Feature"; and will
  208. allow you to create an unlimited number of games of various
  209. difficulty, alien mix and to even customize the complement of forces
  210. each side receives with it's "Game Generation Feature".
  211.  
  212. You also will receive the licensed version of the CRUSADE PLAYER
  213. (which does not have finite stardates); which can play the games you
  214. generate, and the four (4) SPECIAL CRUSADES that are offered below.

  218.    "The Terrans Emerge!" - As the Terran Emperor, you will control
  219.    the development of the Terrans out into the KausKais Galaxy.

  223.    universe ....  the mighty Zardula.  All others bow before you ...
