1. Make 2 directories on the root directory of your hard drive called Qbix and Qbix2.
2. Copy Pkunzip.exe to C:\Qbix2
3. Change directory to c:\Qbix2 (C: being your hard drive letter, so that the prompt reads
c:\Qbix2
3. From within the C:\Qbix2 directory type pkunzip a:\qbix.zip c:\Qbix2
The game has been zipped across 2 disks. The pkunzip utility will ask you at first to insert the last disk of the set (ie Disk 2), and then Disk 1, then disk 2 again.
4. You should now have the following files in the Qbix2 directory:
QBIX.dat
setup.bin
setup.exe
Qbinfo.doc
5. From within Windows, run C:\Qbix2\setup.exe and when you are prompted for a directory to install the game type into, type C:\Qbix
The setup program won't let you install the game into the same directory that the setup program files are kept in. The setup program installs certain DLL files into the Windows
system directory that are necessary for the game to run. It will also create a Qbix icon and an Uninstall icon.
Double click on the Qbix icon to run the game!
6. After successful installation you may delete the contents of the Qbix2 directory.
*If you are putting this game onto a shareware CD:
The objective of the game is to skillfully guide Dufus (the main
character) around the playfield, hopping on all squares to change their
colour to that of the target indicator in the left hand upper corner of the
screen, whilst carefully avoiding touching any of the pursuing enemies.
On later levels Dufus must jump repeatedly on the same square up to
three times to achieve the target colour, and on several levels he must
jump on the tiles so that he leaves them the target colour without
jumping on them again, otherwise the colour will revert to the original.
When any of the game screens begins, you must quickly move away
from the top of the playfield, before the enemy appears where you
initially stand. If you jump off the edge of the playfield, a long perilous
fall awaits you. Dufus consists of a soft squishy material that doesn't
respond well to high velocity impacts upon concrete floors.
Two safety pads appear on the left and right sides of the playfield in
most (but not all levels) levels. Jumping upon either of these results in
explosion of the pursuing enemy, as long as it is visible on the
playfield. Dufus is then transported to the top of the playfield. He must
then move quickly again out of the way before another pursuing enemy
appears.
Every five levels a heart appears which can be collected for an extra
Dufus life. The game begins with 4 Dufus's (or is that Dufii), and ends
when your supply of surplus Dufus's reaches 0.
The central character is controlled by the up, down, left and right arrows.
Controlling the character may be difficult at first. Sometimes it may be
useful to angle your keyboard at 45 degrees, with the left side down, so
that the arrows correspond more closely to the oblique movement directions
of the character. You'll need to practice to get the hang of it.
During game play the ESCAPE key will exit the game.
Pressing F5 will make the game disappear from the desktop and gameplay will be paused. (If the boss walks in) Pressing F5 again will make the game resume, although the musical background music will not play for the rest of the level.
This game runs under Win 3.1 and Windows 95.
The setup program is required to copy the necessary DLL files into the
windows system directory. Without these the game will not run.
The (Arial) fonts must be installed in the Windows/system
directory for the game to work. A PCI graphics card is highly recommended
for smooth gameplay.
Have fun! Hope you like the game. Congratulations go to
Corel/Europress/Yves Lamoureux/Francois Lionet on production of such an
excellent program for producing games (Corel Click and Create)
2. Registration Information
----------------------------------
The shareware (unregistered game) only 10 of the full (registered) 30
levels. Click the sample screens button from the registration screen to
see a sample of several levels available to the registered user. The
most challenging and best designed levels have been saved for the
registered user. Please refer to the registration screen for details on
how to Register Q*Bix to gain access to the full 30 levels. It's only 20
dollars Australian, payable by money order (if in Australia) or
International money order elsewhere. Please do not pay by cheque
(especially non Australian residents) as these can cost up to 10 dollars
Australian to cash.
Make sure that you indicate the following details in your request for
registration:
-which game (i.e. Q*Bix) that you intend to register (I hope to
have several available very soon).
- Also include clearly your name
-your address (including zip / post codes and your country)
-Your email address (if you have one). Email is MUCH faster
than conventional mail, so I would prefer this. I can quickly email
you the registration code once payment has been recieved.
The registered user then simply types the registration code into the
registration edit box on the registration screen and presses ENTER.
The user will then gain access to the full 30 levels, and will not be
annoyed by the registration screen any longer.
Please support the shareware concept and REGISTER!
