- S020: "It is pitch dark, and you can't see a thing."
- S021: "As good-looking as ever."
- S022: "Nameless item"
- S023: "your former self"
- S024: "This is the main dock where townspeople, tradesmen, and sailors alike
- gain their first view of the beautiful little town of Shalandria. Salty
- breezes waft in with the pulsing tide from the vast ocean beyond. Waves crash
- all around you.
- The dock stretches to the east into the little town of Shalandria."
- S025: "The ocean stretches on for many leagues to the distant horizon,
- revealing no signs of any other civilization."
- S026: "Wherever you go, you are always sure to bring with you your trusty
- compass with brass rim, ornate lettering, and that needle pointing due north."
- S027: "The atmosphere high above is turbulent churning the dynamic clouds, yet
- near the ground, only cool breezes swirl around you."
- S028: "Beautiful, rich azure sky peeps through lofty, cumulous clouds. Golden
- sunbeams flit throughout the sky and periodically trickle to the ground."
- S029: "the"
- S030: "You are standing in the main thorough fair as townspeople and tradesmen
- bustle about their business. Shops and taverns extend outwards from this
- center. You see mountains rising high off in to the horizon to the north and
- to the south, and the beginnings of a dense forest are evident just beyond the
- shops of this little town. And, castle spires are visible way off to the
- southeast."
- S031: "A scrap of parchment is blowing about the cobblestones."
- S032: "The cobblestones are cold and damp. In the spaces between stones,
- little blades of grass poke through. This is truly a quaint setting."
- S033: "A circular fountain with a small central spire adorn the center point of
- this town. Water splashes down into the circular pool and occasionally
- spritzes passerby's when the wind gusts."
- S034: "You are standing atop the cool stone roof of the Bookstore. This store
- has a definite gothic flare complete with gargoyle statuettes lining the
- exterior, and other swirls of stone adornments."
- S035: "The statuettes resemble gargoyles and other various and assundry
- creatures. You can't help but wonder what mythical or sentimental significance
- these forms must resemble."
- S036: "You are standing atop the grimy metal roof of the Blacksmith's Shop.
- Through a chimney, puffs of gray smoke emerge, but you have a beautiful view of
- this town, Shalandria, and the land of Erden."
- S037: "There is a little chimney here on the roof which lets some powerful
- smelling smoke seep into the air. Looking down into the chimney, you can
- barely make out a roaring fire beneath through the smoke."
- S038: "the"
- S039: "The townspeople, tradesmen, and sailors alike bustle about their
- business."
- S040: "The walls of the room prevent you."
- S041: "The Blacksmith's Shop smells of cinders and metal. The walls are
- covered with finished odds and ends--pots, spoons, knives, and spears. The
- floor is littered with scrap metal, heavy anvils and hammers. Hammering away
- on one of his commissions, the Blacksmith stands near the fire. He gruffly
- acknowledges your existence on seeing you enter his shop and give you a gaze
- that pierces straight through you."
- S042: "A grand fire roars from within the fireplace. Many poker irons, and
- unfinished metal constructions have been plunged into the cinders beneath."
- S043: "the"
- S044: "The blacksmith is a large man with singed eyebrows and of heavy voice
- and looks as if he doesn't take much guff or put up with 'pleasant'
- conversation. Yet, despite his intimidating appearance, you are under the
- impression that he is a respectable human being . . . if treated alike."
- S045: "This open air market abounds with fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and
- meats. Townspeople mill about the various booths chatting and gathering food
- for their meals. The town center is to the north, paths extend to the east and
- west, and it appears that you are able to make your way south through the
- market."
- S046: "You have made your way to a small school-yard where many children are
- playing happily on the jungle-gym and swing sets. The schoolhouse further back
- is a modest white structure with a row of square windows. Paths curve to the
- northwest, north, and northeast. The school yard abuts a vast and rocky
- mountain range to the south."
- S047: "the"
- S048: "School children laugh and play while crawling through the jungle gym and
- gliding on the swings."
- S049: "the"
- S050: "the"
- S051: "Children laugh and play in the schoolyard."
- S052: "This bright-eyed individual exudes honesty, warmth, and intelligence."
- S053: "The interior of the bookstore is extremely lavish and opulent. Regal
- chandeliers and rugs adorn the ceilings and floor. Light streams in from
- windows in the gothic shape of pointed arches and shines on the thousands of
- books that adorn massive carved wooden bookshelves that line the walls and form
- several isles. You also notice stairs leading down into the darkness on one
- side of the bookstore. Above the stairs reads the sign "Chronicles of Erden".
- In the far corner sits the wiry bookshop owner. "
- S054: "This basement is lit with oil lamps adoring the damp basement walls and
- candles line the tables, their light flickering upon the dark walls and across
- a map pinned to one of the basement walls. A massive book sits opened on a
- kind of altar in the center of the room."
- S055: "Upon the coarse, dark wooden tables, many newspapers are sprawled about
- obviously well thumbed."
- S056: "candle wax"
- S057: "This shop of knickknacks has exits both to the southeast and southwest.
- Shelves and tables full of odds and ends are sprawled throughout the little
- shop. An elderly man and woman sitting in rocking chairs nod when they see you
- come in to their shop."
- S058: "the"
- S059: "an"
- S060: "This little boat is very nicely constructed. The hull and seats are
- made of wood and it has come complete with two oars. It won't survive long
- expeditions (and you wouldn't want to travel very far in this little thing
- either) but the construction is definitely solid enough for little treks across
- an ocean or sea."
- S061: "This sandy beach extends to the north. Beyond the wharf to the south,
- the cliffs protrude too far for you to continue walking in that direction. The
- dock is just to the south of here, looming out over the swelling ocean. The
- beach is covered with fine sand, and yet interspersed throughout are sharp
- pointy rocks and tidepools."
- S062: "This sandy beach extends to the south. High cliffs to the north prevent
- any further progress in that direction. Jutting out of the mountains just to
- the north and extending far out into the ocean is an expansive rock bridge of
- magnificent proportions. Sunlight bounces off of the rocky crags of the lone
- pinnacle supporting this massive force of nature."
- S063: "You don't think you can swim for that many miles in the ocean without
- drowning. You'd best find some other form of transportation if you want to
- traverse the ocean."
- S064: "You don't think you can swim for that many miles in the ocean without
- drowning. You'd best find some other form of transportation if you want to
- traverse the ocean."
- S065: "This wooden plank extends to a length about six feet and is
- approximately one foot wide."
- S066: "You carefully make your way through the slippery rocks that blanket the
- beach in this area. A small dark cave seems to be cut into the rocky mountain
- face just to the southeast. Frothy waters churn up against the rocky cliffs to
- the east making travel in that direction extremely hazardous."
- S067: "The crashing ocean waves are far too treacherous to swim through here."
- S068: "A lovely conch shell lies here amongst the sand and the rocks."
- S069: "This striking conch shell of salmon color is rather large and has a
- wonderful array of ribbed spines emanating out of one of the sides."
- S070: "When you look carefully, you can see many different kinds of crabs
- scurrying from one rock crevice to another."
- S071: "The damp, cold rocks of the cave walls prevent any further movement in
- that direction."
- S072: "Sunlight streams into this damp little cave from the northwest. Water
- seeps out of the surrounding moss-covered rocks and warm breezes waft in from
- the ocean just outside. The sand in this cave is speckled and moist."
- S073: "A weather worn raft lies apparently abandoned, half under sand, in a
- corner."
- S074: "The raft seems to be of simple construction, made out of strips of wood
- that have been bound together in a row by heavy reeds. Although this makeshift
- raft is not the most elegant sailing craft you've seen, it looks rather
- durable."
- S075: "The terrain is impassable in that direction."
- S076: "You hike over the rocky terrain, stepping in pits and climbing over
- large boulders. Save for your own tracks, the area appears to have been
- untouched by human hand for eons. The mountain range continues to the north
- and northeast, full of steep impassable rocky cliffs; however, the more mild
- rocky hills to the southwest appear to lead to flatter grounds."
- S077: "You've come to a little clearing on the island, surrounded by trees and
- covered in grasses. Many logs lie in this area, the grass growing in between
- them. Rocky mountains rise up to the northwest and the terrain to the east
- descends into a dark bayou."
- S078: "the"
- S079: "The wooden log is quite long and rather cumbersome to carry."
- S080: "As you walk through this terrain, you observe that many of the steep
- rocky formations take on the shape of tall spires reaching out of the rocky
- ground. Winding your way between the spires, you see that continuing down in a
- southwesterly direction, the ground slowly begins to soften becoming covered
- with vegetation while the terrain rising up in a northeasterly direction leads
- further up into the steep cliffs."
- S081: "You stand atop high mountain cliffs. Jutting out from the hard ground
- here is a large, steep pinnacle of rock atop which appears to be an intricate
- pattern of large interweaving twigs. To the north, steep cliffs descend to the
- crashing waves far below, and to the southern horizon stretch a small chain of
- steep mountains. The terrain to the southwest looks passable."
- S082: "You are in what appears to be a gigantic bird's nest atop the highest
- cliffs of this island. Fog clings to the mountaintops around you and you hear
- the sounds of waves crashing against the rocky cliffs far below. The nest has
- been built atop a rocky pinnacle. The air is cool and swirling."
- S083: "The only way out appears down."
- S084: "the"
- S085: "the"
- S086: "the"
- S087: "Slender, graceful egrets, their white feathers illuminated by the
- sunbeams perch on the knobby cypress knees while dipping their long thin necks
- down to the waters. Their reflections float serenely on the calm, still bayou
- waters."

- S102: "The ground below disappears under several feet of dark water flowing
- slowly westward away from a large clear lake to the southeast. Floating
- serenely atop the murky water are lush green lilypads and sphagnum mosses.
- Dragonflies buzz over the waters flying swiftly in and out of the sunbeams
- streaking through the large cypress trees. The damp, warm air is filled with
- the sounds of a nearby waterfall splashing into the clear lake to the
- southeast. Although you are knee deep in the pond scum, the terrain to the
- southwest looks passable."
- S103: "The murky waters are still and placid here. The sounds of the waterfall
- have now faded into the distance and are overpowered by the bleatings of toads
- and the buzzing of dragonflies. Eerie, dark cypress trees rise out of the
- murky waters of the bog, while mosses and wisteria drape over their twisted
- branches. Graceful white egrets perch on the bulbous trunks of the cypress,
- their long thin necks craned to the water."
- S104: "The waters are clearer in this area, fed from the crystal lake to the
- north. A large crashing waterfall plunges from great heights down into the
- lake not far from here. Solid land rises up out of the expansive waters to
- the northeast and continues up to the mighty waterfall. The dark, eerie island
- bayous continue in all directions."
- S105: "The dry land rises out of the swampy terrain to the northeast."
- S106: "The rocky ground rises sharply to the northeast and descends into an
- eerie bayou down to the northwest. The water crashing down from the cliffs
- high above to the northeast makes a terrific thunder; you can hear almost
- nothing else. Looking over the treetops to the northwest, you can see that the
- bayou extends far off to the west where the horizon is engulfed in the mist.
- To the north, through the spritzing water of the falls, the mountain range
- extends high up into the atmosphere where the summits pierce the clouds."
- S107: "An altar stands upon the center of a raised platform at one end of the
- room. Upon it, a bare and gnarled tree trunk grows, sculpted out of lustrous
- yellow metal. A mural of frolicking woodland creatures has been carved as a
- relief into a panel, opened, that once stood closed in front of a room to the
- west. Even here in this room, you are periodically splashed by the rushing
- water crashing onto the rocks outside. This temple has long since been
- deserted. The room lies mostly barren of objects save for a few banners still
- hanging from the walls."
- S108: "an"
- S109: "the"
- S110: "This temple chamber appears to have been a supply room. Shelves line
- many of the walls and some stand in rows about the room. While mostly vacated,
- some curious devices lie clumped on certain shelves. The sounds of falling
- water splashing into the lake can still be heard in this room. The opened
- panel with mural carvings leads back into the entrance room to the west."
- S111: "There looks to have once been a passage way in that direction, however
- the corridor has long since collapsed and piles of rubble now lie in the wake."
- S112: "the"
- S113: "Ask you walk along the paths in Shalandria, you see the facades of many
- shops and buildings poking out through the trees."
- S114: "The path breaks up into many in this area as it leads to the many homes
- dotted throughout the nearby landscape. Forests surround the outskirts of town
- leading off to the north and south. The main path out of this residential area
- however, curve from northwest to the southwest."
- S115: "The main path that you are traveling on bends northwest to a little shop
- and to the southwest into the heart of town, but a smaller path runs north into
- a dense forest. In some spots, the underbrush is light enough so that you
- might also be able to bushwhack in other directions."
- S116: "This path forks to the northwest back to town, to the west to a little
- open air market, and to the southwest to a schoolhouse. Mountain ranges extend
- to the south and forests to the east."
- S117: "A windy path bends to the northeast towards what looks like a gothic
- cathedral and to the southeast to the center of town. You are able to make out
- a scrawny path running north into massive mountain ranges. A path extending to
- the northwest seems to wind down to the ocean."
- S118: "Paths curve to the northeast back into the center of town, to the east
- to the marketplace, and to the southeast to a little schoolyard. To the west
- are steep cliffs fall to the ocean beyond. Mountain ranges extend to the
- south."
- S119: "The prominent dirt paths that lead around the shops of Shalandria have
- now dwindled to mere foot trails mostly buried in the encroaching undergrowth
- of the forests surrounding this area. The town of Shalandria lies back to the
- south, and dense forests stretch out in all directions. Narrow beams of
- sunlight stream down through the high canopy overhead, illuminating the
- undergrowth with dappled light."
- S120: "The terrain is much too tricky in that direction."
- S121: "You have traveled about as far as you can over the rocky mountain
- terrain in this direction. Travel looks feasible to the north and easterly
- directions where you see the beginnings of a small but prosperous town, and to
- the southeast which leads further into the mountainous landscape."
- S122: "You attempt to climb up the steep mountains, but only slip and slide
- back down back to where you started."
- S123: "Your travels through the mountains stop in a basin beneath an almost
- vertical sheer cliff-face. The face of the cliff is very smooth until about
- five meters above you head where rocks forming pointy pinnacles jut out from
- what looks like a small precipice."
- S124: "You attempt to climb up the steep mountains, but only slip and slide
- back down back to where you started."
- S125: "You have climbed your way up to this rocky crag poking out of the
- mountain. From this vantage point, you can see the bustling town of Shalandria
- far to the north, and forests stretching out to the eastern horizon. Large
- rocks are sprawled all over this little crag jutting out of the mountain-side.
- As you search about the rocks, a small gleam as if from a piece of metal
- suddenly catches your eye. Peering down more closely, you discover a metal
- keyhole in the crag almost completely buried by the rocks!"
- S126: "This little precipice seems a lone island among the rocks. It's too
- dangerous to move in any direction, save for downward with the aid of your
- rope."
- S127: "You have made your way to the brink of vast mountain ranges. The
- terrain still looks particularly rough around this area, but you can probably
- make your way in north or westerly directions. Mountains to the south appear
- moderately climbable."
- S128: "You attempt to climb up the steep mountains, but only slip and slide
- back down back to where you started."
- S129: "A stunning panorama of a dizzying spread of magnificent mountains is
- visible from this vantage point. You can see for miles and miles to the
- southern horizon formed of distant mountain silhouettes. Sunlight dances over
- pinnacles and valleys as the sun pokes out from behind billowing clouds. You
- can see the little town of Shalandria far below to the northwest."
- S130: "You wander aimlessly through the mountain ranges enjoying the dynamic
- scenery. You eventually return to where you started."
- S131: "You find yourself in the middle of an expansive range of beautiful
- mountains. Lizards scurry away as they hear the sound of your footfalls and
- strange birds caw as they soar overhead. The dark cave you saw with your
- spyglass has disappeared from view behind a small mountain to the south, and
- heading northwest would take you back out of the mountains."
- S132: "You wander aimlessly through the mountain ranges enjoying the dynamic
- scenery. You eventually return to where you started."
- S133: "You've reached a small plateau in these mountains, a small dark opening
- you hadn't notice with your spyglass reveals itself down to the southeast.
- From atop this rocky hill, you can see the large dark cave mouth you spotted
- earlier. It gapes out of a sheer rock face further to the east without any
- sort of ledge in front of it. The cliff face curves to the north and prevents
- any further travel in that direction."
- S134: "You wander aimlessly through the mountain ranges enjoying the dynamic
- scenery. You eventually return to where you started."
- S135: "The cave is cool and damp. Sun rays filtering in from the east barely
- light the interior of this little cramped cavern. Big rocks lie piled to the
- low ceiling in one corner."
- S136: "Heavy large rocks are piled in one corner of this cave. They are dark
- in color and cool to the touch."
- S137: "You have made your way further into this dark, damp cave. Dim light
- streams in through a small opening in the rocks up a steep incline to the
- northwest. After further examining your surroundings, you discover that lying
- behind some large rocks near one of the cave walls appears to be a skeleton.
- By the look of the clothing remains, you deduce he must have been some sort of
- pirate in his time hundreds of years ago."
- S138: "the"
- S139: "This part of the cave must be enormous since the rays of your lamp only
- dimly illuminate the undulating cave walls and rocks high above. You cannot
- see the ceiling above you or the floor beneath where a deep chasm of empty
- darkness looms to the north. You remember the little cave where you entered
- these caverns lies to the south."
- S140: "Your lamp only poorly illuminates this area since so many of the walls
- extend far out of reach. The ground immediately surrounding you reveals the
- rope bridge you put back into use extending to the south, and more cold damp
- rocks lining the cave floor about. After a thorough exploration of this space,
- you discover a passable area to up a steep incline of rocks to the northeast. "
- S141: "After crawling over rocks and ducking under low passage ways, you start
- to see light filtering in through the dank gloom from the north. As you travel
- towards the light, your surroundings become brighter and brighter until you
- find yourself in a large room at the mouth of a vast cave opening to the north
- into those beautiful mountain ranges you walked just a short time ago.
-
- Strange smells permeate the surrounding air and upon closer examination of
- this cave, you discover a periodic sprinkling of scaly chips strewn over the
- cold damp ground. This clearly seems to be the former abode of that fearsome
- dragon you'd heard about in the recent legends buzzing about the town of
- Shalandria."
- S142: "You find yourself on some narrow paths winding through the mountains.
- The sounds of the ocean can be heard off in the distance and the cordillera
- seem to extend for many miles to the north and easterly horizons rising high
- above the land, however the terrain looks passable ascending toward the
- northeast. The village of Shalandria lies to the south."
- S143: "Narrow trails, which have obviously not seen any travelers in years lead
- you further north through the mountains on the edge of the ocean extending out
- in plain view to the western horizon. From this vantage point, you notice some
- hieroglyphics carved into the mountain cliffs above. From here, you can also
- see the little town of Shalandria nestled into a valley to the south, but to
- the north and easterly directions, the mountains rise still higher. A majestic
- rock pier extends out into the ocean directly to the west. Although the drop
- is a long way down on either side, the rock bridge is large and flat enough on
- top to support you easily."
- S144: "You precariously make your way out onto the massive rock bridge that
- extends far out into the ocean. While the rock upon which you are walking
- seems thoroughly immutable with the passing of time and the 'path' upon which
- you walk is wide and sturdy, the hundred foot drop-offs down either side into
- the frothing waters below give you ample cause for concern. From this
- tremendous height, you can see the ocean spawning out for thousands of leagues
- to the western horizon. Winds whip around this area pulling you too and fro as
- you creep further along the bridge."
- S145: "In every direction but to the east, you are met by a sheer drop to the
- crashing waves below."
- S146: "Walking on the rocky mountain trails that periodically disappear and
- then start up again due to disuse continues to lead you around the mountains
- adjacent to the vast oceans leading to the western horizon. Steep cliffs rise
- high above and the waves crash against the rocky land far below."
- S147: "You continue wandering around the mountain ranges, but eventually find
- yourself almost completely surrounded by impassable cliff walls from which
- periodically small rocks come tumbling down."
- S148: "The cliff walls rise high above to the north and east blocking any
- further travel there. Standing with her back to one of the cliffs looking out
- into the ocean, you notice a beautifully carved stone statue of a woman with
- outstretched arms. From this vantage point high on the mountains, you can see
- almost the entire land of Erden stretching out in a panorama. A white castle
- lies nestled into the mountainside far off to the southeast and the quaint
- little village of Shalandria lies in a little valley to the south."
- S149: "The thick forests to the north and east abuts the mountains extending to
- the south and west. The mountains are barren of the lush vegetation of the
- forests, and instead abound with large slabs of rock. The mountains rise up
- very high from here, but around the bend to the southwest, a little dry river
- bed looks travelable. A foot-worn path leads from the northwest to the east."
- S150: "The little river bed cuts between two high canyon walls stretching
- outwards to the sky. The rocks in this canyon are dark and purplish, and the
- air is cool and crisp. The river bed extends onward to the southwest, but the
- terrain looks very rough. Sunlight shines down one wall of the canyon
- illuminating a little patch of gnarled vegetation on a small precipice just to
- the south."
- S151: "You try to continue down the riverbed, but you are unable to make any
- significant progress in that direction."
- S152: "You attempt to climb up the steep mountains, but only slip and slide
- back down back to where you started."
- S153: "This little dried-up river bed is encroached with prickly plants and
- other foreboding vegetation. Rocks and gravel blanket the ground."
- S154: "The canyon walls rise sharply around the river bed that runs roughly
- from the southwest to the northeast in this area. Sunlight pokes out over one
- of the high cliffs flooding some of the dark purple rock faces with light."
- S155: "Sunlight beams fall onto this unusual looking patch of gnarled
- vegetation. The leaves don't resemble any shape that you recognize and strange
- knobby white roots seem to be poking out from the base of each spurt of
- greenery."
- S156: "Just beyond the viscous plants, you see a little precipice basking in
- the sunlight. Unusual plants seem to have found a home there."
- S157: "This little clearing has opened up along side a river bed filled with
- hard gravel and gnarled vegetation. Sunlight streams through this little area
- warming you considerably. Just to the south at your feet, a particularly nasty
- crop of prickly plants has taken root. Just beyond the viscous plants, you see
- a little precipice basking in the sunlight. Unusual plants seem to have found
- a home there."
- S158: "You have made your way to a little precipice sticking out of a cliff
- face. Sunlight warms an unusual outcropping of vegetation here at your feet."
- S159: "Stepping out of this precipice would only land you right in the middle
- of those nasty thorns."
- S160: "The underbrush is too thick in that direction."
- S161: "The acorn is reddish in tint, and has only been slightly nibbled by the
- gray squirrel."
- S162: "The acorn is silverish in tint, and fortunately has only been slightly
- nibbled by the gray squirrel."
- S163: "the"
- S164: "the"
- S165: "the"
- S166: "Periodically throughout these forests, you come across a fallen tree
- slowly decaying on the forest floor."
- S167: "Under the fallen log, you unearth colonies of termites. Now exposed,
- they scurry about frantically for cover. Soon, they'll disappear back into the
- nearby log."
- S168: "the"
- S169: "This oak tree is not as massive as some of the others in these woods."
- S170: "The branches up here are too weak to support your weight if you climb
- out in that direction."
- S171: "You are up as high as you can safely climb in this tree."
- S172: "You try to climb further up, but you can't find any more sturdy
- branches."
- S173: "The branches up here are too weak to support your weight if you climb
- out in that direction."
- S174: "The string of a kite is caught up here in several branches. The kite
- blows about in the breeze."
- S175: "The string is horribly tangled in the branches of this tree."
- S176: "The terrain dips slightly and the trees thin partially. A large ravine
- cuts deep into the ground to the north and east. Dense vegetation hangs upon
- the fallen trees lying about the forest floor, and mosses cling to the base of
- the gigantic trees rising high into the atmosphere."
- S177: "A deep ravine is too steep to travel through in that direction."
- S178: "The forest seems unnaturally quiet. In your walks through this forest,
- you occasionally pass a fallen tree, lying amongst the dappled light falling

- crumbling statuettes strewn over the ground in this general vicinity. In a

- S189: "This stone structure appears to have once been a fountain. Although the
- base ring has since crumbled away in places, the fountain itself has remained
- remarkably intact. Each tier is shaped like a huge bowl leaf that dips down at
- the tip. The tiers are staggered as in a helix, so the water would flow in a
- descending spiral. Over the years, the bowls have collected dirt and debris,
- and are presumably filled with rainwater that hasn't yet evaporated into the
- moist air. Water slowly drips from one tier to the next. Peaking out over the
- top tier, are the leaves of a luscious looking plant."

- however, you are still in the thick of the lush woods surrounded on all sides
- by the majestic trees. Moss-covered rocks sporadically spot the landscape,
- partially covered in the damp leaves of bushes and flora."
- S203: "The underbrush is just too thick in that direction."
- S204: "Plants of lush green have encroached upon the well, having been long
- since abandoned."
- S205: "You find yourself in a large clearing in the forest in which two giant
- stone statues resembling mighty lions lie. One of the lions is in very poor
- condition, it's head and shoulders having long since crumbled away. The other
- lion statue however, looks as though it probably resembles more closely what
- its creators originally intended. This creature has a mighty face with
- furrowed brow and toothy maw; however, it's missing one of the glass stones
- used for its eyes. And, there is something peculiar about this setting. Even
- the very ground beneath your feet seems strangely different."
- S206: "You have descended into a vast room beneath the forest floor. Sunbeams
- faintly stream in through spacings in a wooden ceiling above reflecting off of
- the dust particles hanging in the old stagnant air. A cool breeze blows in
- from the opening atop the stone stairway high above bringing some relief. The
- room is devoid of many of the objects it must have once possessed. Shelves and
- stone tables now lie barren, and most of the floor space is empty. However,
- beautiful carvings adorn the walls and a lone altar stands centered on a dais
- at one side of the room."
- S207: "The smooth stone stairs, now covered in the silt that has collected in
- this temple over the ages, lead upwards out of the lion's belly from which you
- entered."

- spacings in the wooden planks that serve as a ceiling for this forest temple.
- The light has become further choked off by the piling of debris of leaves and
- dirt that have collected atop them over the ages. Nevertheless, this temple

- S212: "Some depictions reveal fierce winged creatures sitting back on their
- haunches with sharp talons on their feet, while others reveal scaly serpentine
- creatures whose bodies appear to slither in and out of the rock. Other
- carvings are free-standing statues of woodland creatures so life-like as if
- they had been frozen in mid-heartbeat."
- S213: "Vast mountain ranges extend to the eastern horizon. The terrain in that
- direction becomes rough and rocky. Here on the outskirts of the foothills
- looks to be the furthest you will be able to traverse into those mountainous
- chains. The lush forest or ancient trees continues to the west and a large
- hill rises up to the south."
- S214: "The terrain becomes far to rugged in that direction."
- S215: "The ground dips down to a beautiful little basin in this general area.
- One of the more striking features of the land, you see a mighty oak rising up
- out of the damp ground to tremendous heights. This, you ponder, must be one of
- the largest trees in the entire forest."
- S216: "The underbrush is too thick in that direction."
- S217: "You are sitting in the branches of the gigantic Great Oak tree. You
- notice the acorns on this tree are silvery in cast."
- S218: "The branches on this tree do not allow you to climb any higher than your
- present location."
- S219: "You attempt to climb out onto one of the branches and nearly fall out of
- the tree in the process. You decide it best to remain relatively close to the
- trunk next time."
- S220: "The makings of a small path cut through the dense undergrowth seems to
- lead to the east. Milkweed seeds hang languidly in the air, glowing in the
- soft hazy light of the sun that filters through the tree trunks. The lush
- green leaves of the brush and trees are moist and damp."

- air is cool and crisp, and the sky seems to darken in this area. Strange
- scuttling noises permeate the air around you. A small, dilapidated shed lies

- pumpkin stems. It even has small spiny knobs. The resemblance is amazing."

- small cabinets are tucked away in the corner, and rows of shelves filled with
- old rotting and rusted tools line the interior of this poor structure. The
- door is located to the southwest."

- complete with steep mountains and lush forests rises from the ocean."
- S255: "This reliefs carved in the walls of this room depict life-like woodland
- creatures frolicking whimsically in the forest. In the mural, you can make out
- chipmunks, birds, a rabbit, a deer, an owl, and butterflies."
- S256: "Mythical beasts and winged beings are shown flying about the skies and
- darting in and out of cloud puffs in the reliefs on these temple walls."
- S257: "More winged beings are shown relaxing in the forest trees' shade, while
- some appear to be in deep thought while mulling over various gadgets in their
- hands. Birds, foxes, and bears are also depicted in the reliefs, playfully
- darting about the trees and bushes."
- S258: "The walls of this room surround you in a panorama of a misty bog
- setting. Insects are frozen in mid-flight, and frogs rest on lily pads in the
- placid waters. Large trees rise out of the water which appears to extend back
- far into the fog."
- S259: "A gigantic waterfall, although logically frozen for eternity, appears to
- burst out and come crashing down upon you as you enter the room. The rest of
- the walls are covered reliefs carved as the spray and foam that would be caused
- at the base of this waterfall."
- S260: "You have stepped out into the open air, and the sun beats down upon you.
- A vast reservoir of rain water has collected here over the years and extends
- out in almost every direction. The ledge on which you are standing extends for
- a bit to the north and south before disappearing into the reservoir waters.
- The water is held in place by a circular arrangement of modest sheer cliffs,
- and the mountainous terrain extends out further beyond. A little below your
- feet, a rectangular opening has been carved away in the rockface and the
- reservoir water funnels through to the temple entrance to the west."
- S261: "You are surrounded in carvings of a vast mountain panorama. The
- mountains in the foreground show the intricate detail of rocky crags and
- boulders on the mountainside while further back into the relief, distant
- mountains are revealed with careful perspective and depth."
- S262: "The walls of this temple room are filled with carvings of leaves of all
- shapes and sizes. They are presented as if stopped motionless while caught in
- the midst of a swirling air current. Some of the reliefs portray life sized
- leaves, while others are depicted surrealistically large taking up almost a
- large portion of the wall space."
- S263: "The carved reliefs of this room show a vast canyon stretching out to the
- horizon in either direction. The setting was carved as if you were frozen in
- mid flight just above the surrounding canyon walls. The scene is complete with
- clouds held motionless in the stone sky."
- S264: "A serene reflecting pool lies to the north and entryways open to the
- southwest, south, and southeast."
- S265: "A mural of creatures that look very similar to ordinary people but
- endowed with mighty wings adorn these walls. The detailed carving depicts

- intricate carvings depict the molding and form of the faces all the way down to

- The room is of immense proportions and a massive round table has been built

- which stands on a stone dais at the far end of the room. High above in the
- vaulted ceiling, an opened skylight, a kind of occulus, lets the sun shine down
- upon the stone altar."
- S271: "This is the edge of the castle grounds. Further to the southeast, the
- land rises to a glorious white castle, standing nestled in the mountain cliffs

- the royal family of Erden. Great stone walls extends from here to the north
- and south and then bends around the castle to the east. Peering inside the
- gate, you can make out several guards making their rounds in the baileys. A
- wide moat filled with murky blue water surrounds the castle completely. Some
- sort of reptiles are swimming about within. Lucky for you, the drawbridge is
- down and portcullis raised. Looking away from the castle entrance, you notice
- a little building to the southwest. A purple banner hanging above the opened
- front door depicts a crystal ball."
- S273: "The portcullis at the gates of Castle Darinore is raised. Underneath it

- S368: "In between the numerous entryways, large stained glass windows have been
- set into the walls. Bits of colored light stream in through the light
- paintings dousing the room in a motley collage."
- S369: "the"
- S370: "The windows of painted glass portray scenes from the histories of this
- land. They are so meticulously constructed and detailed that they resemble
- paintings of light instead of oils."
- S371: "A striking statue of a mighty dragon is displayed on one of the tables
- in this round hall."
- S372: "A carved stone sculpture of a fierce dragon is proudly displayed on one
- of the tables here. From the inscription, it appears to be a gift from one of
- the local artisans."
- S373: "Lovely portraits of the royal families of yore adorn the walls and
- marble statues stand on pillars around most of the entry ways. "
- S374: "Exquisite statues and paintings are on display in this hall. Rich
- draperies fold majestically about several large windows lining the sides of
- this low-ceilinged hall."
- S375: "The vaulted ceilings of this hall are covered in intricately sculpted
- patterns. Light streams in from windows shaped of pointed arches and ornate
- chandeliers hang from the cavernous ceiling."
- S376: "the"
- S377: "Exquisitely swirls of shaped metal holding long thin candles dangle from
- the vaulted ceilings in this hall."
- S378: "The tower is a small round room with a stairwell winding around the
- walls up to rooms above. The windows are small stone slits, through only
- narrow beams of light filter may pass."
- S379: "The top of this tower rises to a small peak in the ceiling above. A
- large entryway leads out onto the battlements to the west and a large circular
- stairwell descends to the palace rooms below."
- S380: "These are the battlements atop the Palace of Darinore. A raised lip of
- small square pillars runs along the top perimeter of the Palace of Darinore.
- These parapets continue from your location to the west and an entry to a small
- tower lies to the east. The royal guards here on the rooftops of the palace
- survey the castle grounds below. Banners and flags flap in the breezes that
- swirl through the area."
- S381: "You balance scuffed and torn on a wide window ledge about midway down
- the stone walls of the Palace of Darinore. A large window to the north stands
- opened. Breezes swirl about making your balance atop this ledge quite
- precarious."
- S382: "Suicide is not the answer."

- S392: "The carrots of gigantic proportion have come to rest lying propped up on
- the side of the cauldron, their green tufts draping over the lip."
- S393: "By some witchcraft, you find yourself three inches high on the rough
- floorboards of the witch's hut. Sharp splinters protrude like huge knife-like
- spires from the warped and rather scuffed boards making up the floor. A huge
- fire pit, currently cold, lies to the east and ominous shelves filled with
- potions and witchcraft loam up all about. From the perspective of your present
- diminished size, you seem very insignificant to the setting."
- S394: "the"
- S395: "The air is old and musty."
- S396: "A damp, dank, musty smell permeates the air of this shallow space under
- the floorboards. The area around you is littered with small bits of garbage
- and rotting food particles long forgotten. The space is dimly lit from the
- light above streaming in through the spacings in the floorboards, and sunbeams
- reflect off of the dusty particles hanging in the stagnant air."
- S397: "You prowl about under the grimy floor for a time, but find nothing of
- any interest."
- S398: "You are in an unlit fire pit directly under the witch's black cauldron.
- From your vantage point, you see the bottom fringe of the witch's black dress
- to the northeast as she sits near the cauldron."
- S399: "You find yourself under the witch's stool as she sits near the fireplace
- to the southwest. Numerous vials and bottles lie here, some upright, some
- overturned."

- S401: "You have made a mold of the wooden key."
- S402: "The iron key is smooth and silver. Its shape bears the remarkable

- S408: "You find yourself in a vast expanse of limestone caverns. The space is
- dimly lit by some kind of lichen fluorescing as they grow on the moist lime
- deposits. Their soft eerie colors of pale purples and light greens glisten on
- the rock formations made wet by the incessant dripping of mineral water from
- the cavern ceilings high above. Nooks and crannies lie tucked away all
- throughout this cavern. Some to the southeast and to the west are close enough
- to the ground and appear large enough for you to enter. A large wooden door
- extends up to the top of the cavern to the north where the ceiling has sloped
- down. A very rusty lock made of some kind of robust metal is affixed to the
- door."
- S409: "the"
- S410: "This is a small crawl space in one of the formations in the limestone
- caverns. Here, the stalactites and stalagmites have joined together to form
- numerous little pillars around this cramped space. You have to crawl on your
- hands and knees to move about in this area, and when you touch the ground, or
- bump into the walls, the cold mineral water seeping out through the walls
- clings to your clothing. An opening to the northwest leads back into the
- entrance cavern."
- S411: "Having climbed through the narrow crawl space leading out to the
- entrance cavern to the east, this space has opened up into a cavern of moderate
- size. Peering about the room, you notice some rather grotesque looking
- deposits formed by the dripping water from the ceiling. The large globules
- bend and contort into peculiar, yet extremely intricate formations.
-
- Peering about the rock formations while squinting to see in the dim light, your
- eyes come to rest on a decaying body lying behind one of the rock piles.
- Grisly!"
- S412: "An expansive cavern stretches out to the north. You stand on a ledge
- high above the floor of this great cavern. Huge lime formations hang down from
- the ceilings or up from the floor below. Water incessantly drips from the
- stalactites into a series of mineral pools dotting the cavern floors. The
- cavern is so dark and expansive, that the softly fluorescing lichens dotting
- the walls do not illuminate the space well. You would not be able to see the
- grotesque mineral formations if the light purple and green glow did not gleam
- off their surfaces ever wet from the mineral water seeping through the ceilings
- high above. You can detect the hint of a path down through the slimy rocks,
- and dark openings to the east, northeast and northwest appear accessible by the
- rocky ledges running along the sides of the vast cavern."
- S413: "You have reached to floor of the amphitheater upon which pools of richly
- colored mineral water have collected in the uneven ground. The stalactites
- reaching upward from the ground loom into view as you wander over the rocky
- ground. Some of the spires extend out of your visual range up into the
- darkness. You might be able to climb the slippery rocks up to the ledge you
- stood upon earlier, and dark openings to the north, west, southeast, and
- northwest appear to lead into other limestone caverns."
- S414: "This is a small little room in the chain of limestone caverns. A large,
- shallow pool of mineral water has collected here. The dim light from the
- fluorescing lichens reflects off of the still surface. From out of the
- darkness, you hear the quiet chirp of cave crickets."
- S415: "The dark opening in the cavern walls to the north is too high up for you
- to reach."
- S416: "This is a small crawl space leading from the southeast to the north.
- Stalactites hanging from the ceiling poke you in the back as you crawl along
- the small, rocky passageway, sloshing through the pools of water along the
- floor."
- S417: "This chamber extends far up into the darkenss that engulfs the ceiling.
- The purple and green light from the dimly fluorescing lichens which dott the
- cavern walls reveals dark openings to the south, east, and northeast. High
- above, you hear the flutter of tiny wings and soft screechings."
- S418: "Wandering into this pocket of space in the limestone rocks, you discover
- that many of the stalagmites resemble castle spires, their damp surfaces
- gleaming in the soft purple light of the fluorescing fungi in pockets along the
- cavern walls."
- S419: "Mangled pirate bodies are sprawled out on the cavern floors of this
- chamber in the limestone caverns. Thankfully, the dimly fluorescing lichens
- only partially reveal the details of the rotting remains."
- S420: "the"
- S421: "This cavern mostly resembles a narrow crawl space. Dim light flickers
- in through jagged openings in the limestone to the northwest, east, and south.
- Your clothes become spotted with mineral water as it drips slowly down from
- minute cracks in the ceilings."
- S422: "Fluorescing lichen grow periodically out of the damp rocks on the
- western side of this cavern. To the east however is pitch blackness. You
- occasionally hear the soft fluttering of thousands of beating wings echoing out
- from the darkness."
- S423: "The sounds of mineral water dripping into the pools that have formed in
- the depressions of the uneven floors poignantly echo throughout this cavernous
- room. Magnificent stalactites hang from the ceilings. Some of the formations
- are almost translucent in the soft glow of the purple lichens growing on the
- limestone rocks. Dark openings lead to the north, northeast, south, and
- southwest."
- S424: "This is just a small cavern amongst a vast chain of limestone caverns.
- A rotting pirate body is propped up, against one of the stalagmites rising out
- of the rocky floors. He has obviously been decaying here for many decades.
- The jagged opening in the limestone rocks to the northwest is the only exit you
- can find in this small room."
- S425: "The stalagmites formed by the incessantly dripping water seeping through
- minute cracks in the ceilings of the caverns are extremely beautiful in this
- room. Some of the formations remind you of fields of flowers. The helcitite
- glistens in the soft green light. Other formations appear to be flowstone or
- dripstone, thin and translucent. Although grotesque and twisted in form, the
- formations of this cavern are very aesthetic. A dark opening in the jagged
- rocks leads to the east."
- S426: "Dimly fluorescing lichens light this limestone cavern. Many of the
- stalactites hanging from the ceiling and stalagmites rising up out of the rocky
- floor are spotted with some unusual colorings from mineral impurities. Some
- gleam alabaster white, while others are dotted with rusty red patches. A
- narrow opening in the jagged limestone walls leads to the south into a large
- room."
- S427: "As you slosh through pools of mineral water which abound in this cavern,
- you notice many mangled pirate bodies lying heaped about. The carnage appears
- to have been self inflicted, some dying while still clutching knives sticking
- out of the adjacent carcass."
- S428: "This cavern is very narrow and tall. You almost don't fit through the
- slim passage leading from the south to the northwest. Your shirt becomes
- drenched as it rubs against the seeping walls of these limestone caverns."
- S429: "A narrow stream flows slowly through this cavern leading out of a jagged
- opening in the rocks to the northeast down to the southwest from which dim
- sunlight streams in through the opening in the rocks."
- S430: "Finally, after all of your travels in the barely lit limestone caverns,
- you see small bits of daylight creeping once again into your world."
- S431: "This is a very cramped, tiny room. The floor lies under several inches
- of mineral water which wells up from a spot in the rocks where the wall and
- rocky floors meet to the north. The water has completely flooded this room and
- streams over the drop-off to the southwest where it splashes noisily upon the
- ground below."
- S432: "This fairly large cavern among the chain of limestone caverns extend to
- the northeast. Most poignantly, you notice diffused sunlight filtering in
- through a small opening in the wall of the cavern to the southwest. The
- lichens look surprisingly dull in the wake of the sunlight. They are light
- green or whitish in the soft sunlight. The narrow stream flows into this
- portion of the cavern from the northeast and exits through a small opening in
- the southwest rocks."
- S433: "You are standing on rocks high above a large bay entirely cased in
- reddish rock save for a magnificent opening in the cave walls to the southwest
- which grants, through the crashing ocean waves, a view out into a sunlight
- world. The light streams over a massive wooden pirate ship swaying to and fro
- in the gentle rise and fall of the bay waters. The old white sails billow in
- the bursts of ocean breeze that blow through this grotto by the sea. The bay
- continues down to the west, and the twisty limestone caverns are through the
- crawlspace to the northeast."
- S434: "Swimming out into the icy waters of the bay, the dark wooden ship looms
- ominously overhead. A rope ladder hangs over side scraping side to side along
- the hull as the boat rocks in the swelling waves. Sunlight streams into the
- grotto from behind the ship silhouetting it in golden sunbeams. The dark red
- rocks of the cavernous grotto glow warmly in the light."
- S435: "the"
- S436: "the"
- S437: "The white sails of the old pirate ship billow in the warm air gusting
- through the cavernous opening in the rocks to the west."
- S438: "The wooden deck of this old vessel is weathered and stained. Draped out
- over the hull are ropeladders and chains. The ship rocks to and fro in the
- gentle waters of the cavernous bay of red rock illuminated by the vast opening
- out into the ocean to the west. The large pirate ship extends north to the
- raised aft deck and south to the raised forecastle deck. Directly under this
- deck a dark wooden door swings opened and closed with the tossing of the ship.
- Looking up high above through the swelling sails, you see a crow's nest atop
- the mainmast dipping back and forth with the movement of the ship. Down near
- the base of the main mast, you see a closed wooden hatch leading further into
- the bowels of the ship."
- S439: "Standing high on the aft deck, you see the vast oceanside grotto
- spreading out around you. The broad wooden decks below are covered with excess
- coils of rope, and wooden buckets and brooms litter the deck below. Slumped
- behind some of the wooden barrels stacked up here on the aft deck, you find the
- rotting remains of another pirate, and hanging over the ship's large wooden
- steering wheel lies yet another."
- S440: "Up high in the crow's nest, you swing precariously about in the little
- basket even though the ship below bobs only gently in the waves below.
- Extending upwards though the center of the little wooden basket of the crow's
- nest is a wooden pole. Old ropes still dangle down from the pole holding the
- shredded remnants of a banner once flown from the mast."
- S441: "A banner of some kind must have once flown from this mast protruding
- from the crow's nest."
- S442: "Entering this dark and musty room, you see another horrible site.
- Slumped over a massive table at the back of the room are the rotting remains of
- the ship's captain, his notable signets still dangling from his garmets.
- Sprawled along the floor near the massive table is the twisted body of another
- of the unfortunate pirates with still clutching the blade sticking out of his
- chest.
-
- As you gaze elsewhere around the room, you see detailed maps pinned to the
- walls, and underneath are chests, some of which are filled with coins and other
- treasure."
