  6.     Not so sure of himself anymore, Odo EXITS to the 
  7.     Promenade. As soon as he's out the door, Quark turns 
  8.     around to watch him through the window. Jake moves 
  9.     over to watch as well.
  10.  
  11. 9    THROUGH THE WINDOW
  12.  
  13.     we see Odo walk down the Promenade... then pause... 
  14.     seems to hesitate... then he goes to a shop and begins 
  15.     examining the wares, looking for a gift.
  16.  
  17. 10   RESUME QUARK & JAKE
  18.  
  19.     Quark smiles to himself at the sight.
  20.  
  21.                     JAKE 
  22.             Okay... so now you've got him 
  23.             looking for a gift. What're you 
  24.             up to?
  25.  
  26.                     QUARK
  27.             I tell you, you write it down, the 
  28.             next thing I know I'm in a holding 
  29.             cell.
  30.  
  31.                     JAKE 
  32.             I won't write a word, I promise. 
  33.             This is just... character research.
  34.  
  35.                     QUARK
  36.             Right.

  38.     Quark goes back to work, but Jake won't let it go and 
  39.     decides to try another tack.

  41.                     JAKE 
  42.             Quark, listen... I've been working 
  43.             on a crime novel. But I've hit 
  44.             a wall in my writing. It's not... 
  45.             truthful anymore. It's phony. 
  46.             Artificial. 
  47.                 (beat) 
  48.             I'm having trouble creating real, 
  49.             flesh-and-blood characters. 
  50.             Especially nefarious ones. If 
  51.             you'd let me just watch and listen 
  52.             as you pull off...
