  8.             After all the intrigue and 
  9.             deception you've had to engage in 
  10.             over the past week, you must've 
  11.             found that moment of pure brute 
  12.             force to be a... refreshing change 
  13.             of pace.
  14.  
  15.     Garak smiles at him pleasantly. There may be an 
  16.     element of truth in what he's saying, but what Sisko 
  17.     can't believe is the way Garak keeps poking and 
  18.     prodding at his psyche. Sisko begins to smile at the 
  19.     absurdity of it all.
  20.  
  21.                     SISKO 
  22.             Mister Garak... why is it that no 
  23.             one has killed you yet?
  24.  
  25.                     GARAK
  26.             My innate charm?
  27.  
  28.     Sisko laughs and Garak smiles wider. Sisko laughs 
  29.     louder -- it's a release of tension and anxiety that's 
  30.     been building in him for over a week. As he laughs...

  32.                                     CUT TO:

  34. 22   INT. SISKO'S QUARTERS
  35.  
  36.     Sisko is standing behind the couch, and while there's 
  37.     a smile on his face at the memory, there's a bitter, 
  38.     rueful quality to his expression.
  39.  
  40.                     SISKO 
  41.             It wasn't that funny. But I 
  42.             couldn't stop laughing. 
  43.                 (beat) 
  44.             Maybe... I was under more pressure 
  45.             than I realized. Maybe it really 
  46.             was starting to get to me. 
  47.                 (beat) 
  48.             At the time, I thought I was off 
  49.             the hook. Starfleet Command had 
  50.             given the plan their blessing and 
  51.             I thought that would make things 
  52.             easier.
