  7.             I'm talking about when you had to 
  8.             decide whether or not to meet with 
  9.             the Dominion. I'm sure it wasn't 
  10.             easy -- I know you wanted to try 
  11.             to save as many lives as possible. 
  12.                 (smiles) 
  13.             It's probably what makes you such 
  14.             a good doctor.

  16.                     BASHIR 
  17.             Fortunately this doctor's also a 
  18.             Starfleet Officer.
  19.  
  20.     Bashir mulls it over for a moment --
  21.  
  22.                     BASHIR 
  23.             We thought we were so smart. We 
  24.             actually believed we could predict 
  25.             the future. 
  26.                 (beat) 
  27.             It's my fault, not theirs. I 
  28.             should never have let things go so 
  29.             far. I guess I was just too bent 
  30.             on proving to the world that they 
  31.             have something to contribute.

  33.     O'Brien considers for a beat...
  34.  
  35.                     O'BRIEN 
  36.             They did contribute, Julian. 
  37.                 (off Bashir's look) 
  38.             Seems to me we were starting to 
  39.             get a little too complacent about 
  40.             the Dominion. We may have driven 
  41.             them back into Cardassian space, 
  42.             but that doesn't mean we've beaten 
  43.             them.

  45.     Bashir looks at his friend, grateful for his 
  46.     perspective...

  48.                     BASHIR
  49.             I only hope we can...

  51.                     O'BRIEN 
  52.             The odds may not be good, but all 
  53.             we can do is take our best shot.

  55.     And with that, O'Brien moves away. A beat as Bashir 
  56.     considers his words, then he turns and heads for the 
  57.     Dabo table...
