  11.     Bashir.

  13.                     SISKO 
  14.             Surrender to the Dominion -- not 
  15.             on my watch.
  16.  
  17.                     BASHIR
  18.             I understand how you feel, sir. 
  19.             I don't like it any more than you 
  20.             do. But it's the best option. We 
  21.             ran dozens of different scenarios. 
  22.             Even if something unlikely were to 
  23.             happen that tilted the scales in 
  24.             our favor -- say an anti-Dominion 
  25.             coup on Cardassia -- we'd still 
  26.             lose this war.
  27.  
  28.                     SISKO
  29.                 (incredulous) 
  30.             That doesn't mean we should just 
  31.             give up and roll over.
  32.  
  33.                     BASHIR
  34.             If we fight, we'll take over nine 
  35.             hundred billion casualties. If we 
  36.             surrender, no one dies. Either 
  37.             way we're in for five generations 
  38.             of Dominion rule.
  39.                 (the good news) 
  40.             Eventually a rebellion will form, 
  41.             centered on Earth. It'll start to 
  42.             spread, and within another 
  43.             generation, it'll succeed in 
  44.             overthrowing the Dominion. The 
  45.             Alpha Quadrant will unite in a 
  46.             new, stronger Federation that'll 
  47.             last thousands of years.
  48.                 (beat) 
  49.             Since we can't win, why not 
  50.             surrender and save as many lives 
  51.             as we can?

  53.     Sisko takes a moment to try and assimilate his 
  54.     argument, and Bashir can see that he's not buying it.

  57.             Sir, I realize this isn't easy to 
  58.             accept.
