  7. 23   INT. DEEP SPACE NINE - SURGERY (OPTICAL)

  9.     A few moments later. A nurse is just finishing using 
  10.     a device on Garak's nose and the flow of blood has 
  11.     stopped. Bashir is studying a graphic display of 
  12.     several moving brainwaves on a monitor marked "Garak" 
  13.     while Worf looks on. A jagged "spike" appears in one 
  14.     line on the display.
  15.  
  16.                     BASHIR
  17.             There.
  18.  
  19.     He hits a control and the image freezes, the spike in 
  20.     the waveline clearly visible.
  21.  
  22.                     BASHIR
  23.             Garak's septial capillaries burst 
  24.             at this point. And the pattern of 
  25.             his delta waves shows unusual 
  26.             activity at the same moment.

  29.     Bashir thinks about this for a long moment.

  31.                     BASHIR
  32.             The bleeding might be the result 
  33.             of some kind of psychosomatic 
  34.             response.

  36.                     WORF
  37.             You mean he... thought that he was 
  38.             injured?

  40.                      BASHIR
  41.             Under certain conditions, people 
  42.             have been known to alter their 
  43.             blood pressure, lower their body 
  44.             temperature, even manifest tumors 
  45.             as a result of psychological 
  46.             stimuli.

  49.             Could these... stimuli cause more 
  50.             serious injuries?
