  7. 26   EXT. ARMY/AIR CORPS BASE - DAY

  9.     An establishing shot of the outside of a large military 
  10.     building.

  12. 27   INT. OBSERVATION ROOM
  13.  
  14.     This is a dark, smoke-filled room, where soldiers in 
  15.     1940's-era clothing study the Ferengi through what we 
  16.     now realize is a two-way mirror.
  17.  
  18.     In the center of the room is a broad-beamed, craggy-
  19.     faced Army Air Corps general, the butt of a fat stogie 
  20.     clenched in his teeth. This is GENERAL REX DENNING, a 
  21.     no-nonsense veteran of two world wars who's ready to 
  22.     take on the Martians to defend the good old USA if 
  23.     necessary.

  25.     Also present are Captain Wainwright, PROFESSOR JEFF 
  26.     CARLSON, an idealistic young scientist, his fiancee 
  27.     FAITH GARLAND, a Woman's Army Corps nurse, and two 
  28.     M.P.s, one with a large GERMAN SHEPHERD guard dog.
  29.  
  30.                     CAPTAIN WAINWRIGHT 
  31.             We've got the farmer who found 
  32.             their ship locked up in the 
  33.             B.O.Q., but I don't know how much 
  34.             longer we can keep him there.
  35.  
  36.     When Denning speaks it's with the gravely voice of a 
  37.     lifelong smoker.

  39.  
  40.                     GENERAL DENNING 
  41.             You keep him there until I tell 
  42.             you to let him go. Did you take 
  43.             care of that idiot in Roswell who 
  44.             told the press we captured a 
  45.             flying saucer?
  46.  
  47.                     CAPTAIN WAINWRIGHT 
  48.             We've convinced him to issue a 
  49.             retraction.
  50.                 (smiling)
  51.             Turns out it was just a weather 
  52.             balloon.

  55.             A weather balloon, huh?
