  8.             Starfleet I wanted to get away        
  9.             from. I was trying to escape the 
  10.             pain I felt after my wife's death. 
  11.             I thought I could just wrap the 
  12.             uniform around that pain and toss 
  13.             them both away.
  14.                 (a beat) 
  15.             But it doesn't work like that. 
  16.             Running may help for a little 
  17.             while, but sooner or later the 
  18.             pain catches up to you. The only 
  19.             way to get rid of it is to stand 
  20.             your ground and face it.

  22.                     WORF 
  23.             But wearing the uniform must 
  24.             remind you of what you've lost.

  26.                     SISKO
  27.             Sometimes. But it also reminds me 
  28.             of what I've gained. And who I 
  29.             am. I could throw away my 
  30.             uniform, resign my commission, run 
  31.             all the way to the Nyberrite 
  32.             Alliance, and it wouldn't make any 
  33.             difference.
  34.                 (a beat) 
  35.             A Starfleet officer. That's what 
  36.             I am, and that's what I'll always 
  37.             be.

  39.     This touches a nerve with Worf. He looks down at the 
  40.     folded uniform.

  43.             And you think that's true of me 
  44.             as well.

  47.             What's important, Mister Worf, 
  48.             is what you think.

  52.     Worf looks at the uniform for a long beat.

  56.             for many years. And perhaps it 
  57.             still is.
